When no xorg.conf is used, it should also write the text of this "internal"
used inside Xorg.0.log file itself.
If you copy and paste this to a new xorg.conf, does it change anything?

Even with the iomanip header file, compiler returns error

But I know that with endl; it works :) Thanks for helping out with this issue.

X settings not saved under KDE 4
by Patrick O'Callaghan
I have a widescreen (1440x900) Samsung LCD, which works fine under F8,
with both Gnome and KDE. The video card is an onboard Intel 965 (Intel
mobo). Anaconda set me up with the Intel video driver and a 1024x768
display (stretched of course).
* With KDE under F9-Preview (+ updates as of today) I can't use the
Display Settings widget as the screen goes black and leaves me with
nothing but a cursor.
* From runlevel 3 I tried system-config-display and set things up as I
want them. X proceeds to ignore the settings.
* Under Gnome I can run the display widget and set the screen correctly,
but as as soon as I log out it reverts to its previous state.
* When I log out of the desktop (either one) I get a brief flash of an
error box saying something about "AVC violation" but it goes away
immediately.
Ideas welcome ...

small program that generates terms in OEIS sequence A016278
by Antonio Olivares
Dear all,
I wrote a small program prog1.cpp that cranks out the numbers in the sequence A016278 in OEIS
http://www.research.att.com/~njas/sequences/A016278
The program runs on slax, but fails to do so on rawhide.
[olivares@localhost Documents]$ cat prog1.cpp
#include <iostream.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <math.h>
int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
int i;
double j;
for (i=1; i < 16; i++)
{
j =
(4.0/7.0)*pow(2.0,i-1)+(-3.0/2.0)*pow(3.0,i-1)+(27.0/14.0)*pow(9.0,i-1);
cout << i << ' ' << j << "\n";
}
return EXIT_SUCCESS;
}
[olivares@localhost Documents]$ cat /etc/fedora-release
Fedora release 8.93 (Rawhide)
[olivares@localhost Documents]$ c++ -o prog1 prog1.cpp
prog1.cpp:1:22: error: iostream.h: No such file or directory
prog1.cpp: In function ‘int main(int, char**)’:
prog1.cpp:13: error: ‘cout’ was not declared in this scope
[olivares@localhost Documents]$
On slax 6.0.5/6.0.6 it runs fine although with some warnings:
root@slax:~# c++ -o prog1 prog1.cpp
In file included from
/usr/lib/gcc/i486-slackware-linux/4.2.3/../../../../include/c++/4.2.3/backward/iostream.h:31,

root@slax:~# ./prog1
1 1
2 14
3 145
4 1370

....,
Is there something that needs to be done so that the program can compile fine in rawhide?
TIA,
Antonio

sys-conf-firewall - can you use it to set the firewall to log dropped packets ?
by Development discussions related to Fedora
Running the near F9 system-config-firewall-1.2.7-1.fc9.noarch.
Can I use Custom Rules|Add to supply a rule that logs dropped packets ?
Or is the only way via cli iptables setup {or firestarter gui} ?
This interests me because I have an almost headless server {old serial
terminal vdu setup}, and I want to see such messages on the terminal.
Perhaps it should be an easy option so that firewall beginners can be a
bit informed about connections and packets being dropping on their machine ?
It is also handy to see the notification when you are trying to connect
through a remote method, if indeed the firewall is blocking you...
File an RFE bug ?
Or wouldn't it fit well with s-c-firewall ?

X rendered all white with compiz and i945gm ..and kernel mode-setting feedback
by sipieter nicolas
hi there, first post on this list :)
i installed fedora9 preview on my lenovo thinkpad x60
the gfx chip is an intel "i945GM"
i've found when i run compiz X gets rendered all white.. i can't see a
thing.. but i can guess it's still working though:
cube and scale plugin seem to respond, so i can see a white cube on a
slightly darkened white desktop ;)
.. same for "scale plugin, i see background that get darkened a bit..
i've figured if i install fusion-icon and choose "indirect rendering"
setting,
my desktop is being rendered correctly :)
that's the good news.. so i can use compiz on my laptop.
it's working through that "indirect rendering option though.
i was wondering why i had to use that indirect rendering option, and if i
can get rid of it ?
i tryed adding "i915.modeset=1" in my grub.conf,
i can report new resolution available, fast vt switching, no problem with
font rendering, and things being a bit slower than before.. it seems stable,
and it didn't helped with my problem of X being rendered all white and me
having to set "indirect rendering" .. kernel mode setting looks very
promising though :)
hum.. anyone can see a solution about my X being rendered all white and
indirect rendering option problem ?
thanks

Re: how to use echo icon theme?
by Gianluca Cecchi
Ok it works perfectly.
Thanks Mike and Greg.
I didn't remember since I enabled it in pre-fc8 times...
I continue to think it is far better than default icon set.
There were some rendering issues for f8 (never seen at my side) that
prevented it from being default icon set in fc8, if I'm right...
why not use it for f9 now?
Just my opinion.
