Lexmark T522 - Markvision seg-fault
by Sean Craig
Hi All,
Does anybody use a lexmark printer - particularly the T52x-series?
The Lexmark printers use a really old-style gui (markvision is the
program) to configure the advanced options (multi-up pages, duplex
printing, etc).
The latest rpm's from the Lexmark site install fine, and I can create a
new virtual device.
When I try create a new queue, the thing seg-faults. The documentation
mentions "Enhanced Printer Drivers requires a running LPD program to
create queues." Thus I have enabled cups-lpd. (I do have another
printer queue defined in /etc/printcap. This is needed also...)
Anybody have a clue??
Thanks

icons
by Justin Georgeson
I just installed FC test2, and am having trouble with the icon themes.
It seems that the gnome icon theme doesn't have enough icons to use it
as the default inherited theme instead of Bluecurve. The gnome theme has
replacement icons, they just don't appear to get used in the menu.
Perhaps it's because there is only 48x48 versions?

Hello
In the kernel source package for severn beta2 (2.4.22-1.2061) compiling
the kernel with the following commands--
552 cp configs/kernel-2.4.22-i686.config ./.config
553 make oldconfig
554 make dep bzImage
-- fails with the following error message--

Kernel Compile -- 802.11g Wireless 54Mbps PCMCIA Card
by Robert L Cochran
I want to run an 802.11g wireless PCMCIA card under Linux, on my wife's
aging Sony Vaio PCG-F350 laptop. Luis Rodriguez let me know that this is
possible if I don't mind doing a kernel compile. I just compiled the
Fedora Core - provided kernel according to the instructions provided by
Luis at http://ruslug.rutgers.edu/~mcgrof/802.11g/Documentation/ , and
then compiling and installing the drivers provided on that site (for the
Intersil 38xx chipset.) Essentially, a new pcmcia package is compiled
and installed.
So far -- so good! I have not popped in a wireless card yet, I will do
that tomorrow. However, the the laptop boots fine with the considerable
pcmcia changes.
Now to find a compatible pcmcia card -- probably the Netgear WG511 or
SMC2835W EZ Connect g 2.4 GHz 54 Mbps Wireless Cardbus Adapter -- and
see if I can get some action when I pop the card in. If the module loads
and I can set up encryption stuff, I'll head over to my Starbucks to
check it out.
I wonder if the card drivers will tell me when they detect available
wireless networks and what the SSIDs are?

Transgaming WineX (specifically EverQuest) under Fedora 0.94
by Deryk Lister
I posted the following message to the TransGaming messageboards, and
will also post it here in case anyone has any ideas! The problem, I
think, is with the kernel but I've yet to put my finger on it.
This thread seems to outline a similar problem, and the same method I
tried (grabbing a vanilla kernel and compiling with a Fedora .config
file) but whilst it worked for this person it didn't work for me:
http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-test-list/2003-September/msg00218.html
The TransGaming post is as follows
-------------------------------------
Location: http://www.transgaming.com/postlist.php?forum=14
WineX Version: 3.1
Distribution: Fedora Core 0.94
Video Card: Geforce2. Driver: nvidia
Sound Card: C-media - onboard
Game Title: EverQuest
I'm running the 2nd pre-release of Fedora Linux "Severn" build,
previously known as Red Hat Linux 10.
When running winex3 -debugmsg +err eqgame.exe patchme I get:
err:win32:do_relocations Standard load address for a Win32 program
(0x00400000) not available - security-patched kernel ?
err:win32:do_relocations FATAL: Need to relocate
G:stuffgamesEverQuesteqgame.exe, but no relocation records present
(stripped during link). Try to run that file directly !
/usr/lib/transgaming_winex3//winex/bin/wine: can't exec 'eqgame.exe
patchme': error=21
EQ is running from a mounted FAT32 partition, if it makes any
difference.
Picking up on the bit about "patched kernel" I downloaded a vanilla
kernel and used the Fedora .config file stored as:
/usr/src/linux-2.4.22-1.2061.nptl/configs/kernel-2.4.22-athlon.config
but sadly this didn't solve the problem.
After a search on the Fedora mailing lists, I also tried:
echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/exec-shield
echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/exec-shield-randomize
to no avail. With the vanilla kernel, these files don't even exist.
Any suggestions/workarounds appreciated!
(I'd quite like to see this fixed - without workarounds - before Fedora
is released, if anything to prevent newbs getting put off. Will help in
any way I can, but note I'm not a programmer)
Cheers

ks.cfg
by Jörn Rink
Hi,
until the last beta for redhat severn, i do not see the dhcp hostname
option. Is it possible to set the hostname, even if i use dhcp?
I mean the <send host-name "xyz.abc.con"> in the
/etc/dhclient-eth0.conf, or is it only possible to do this voia a post
install script?

mixed Languages/missing Translations in anaconda & firstboot
by Christoph Wickert
After a fresh install with german & english language selectet, firstboot
showed a mix of both. TOC on the left, headings & buttons are german,
while main text is english.
Anaconda:
No translation for "Mountpoint already in use, please choose another
one" in diskdruid (should be something like "Der Mountpoint wird bereits
genutzt, bitte wählen Sie einen anderen." in german.
No translation for Help when setting up firewlling. English help is
obsolete (different security-levels).

New FC User
by Chuck Price
I finally broke down and installed FC2. First time didn't work too well.
Mouse didn't move very well and of course the tab key doesn't either.
Has anyone had a problem with add software. Mine keeps asking for disk
2. I know the disk is good (MD5 and install both say the media is ok).
What was that repo for add-ons. Yeah I suffer from CRS, and the mail got
lost somewhere between the backup and the install.
Thanks
