Hard Drive Install help :-(
by Mark Guzzo
Hello all,
I'm trying (for the first time) to install Severn2 from the hard drive.
Now I've read the install docs for both Red Hat 8 and Red Hat 9 and they
both say something different.
RH8: for example, if the ISO images are in /test/new/RedHat, you would
enter /test/new
RH9: for example, if the ISO images are in /test/new, you would enter
/test/new
I've tried it both ways and I still get the error that no RedHat images
can be found on /dev/hda5. Can someone please give a little more info as
to how to do this.
TIA

configuring up2date for apt repository
by Justin Georgeson
I would like to start picking up add-on packages, for example from
freshrpms.net or livna.org. I'd prefer to stick to the apt access.
However, I don't see apt packages on fedora.us, freshrpms.net, or
livna.org for .94. Can I use the package of .93? Does freshrpms.net have
repos for either beta? I couldn't find them if so.
Does anyone know what to put in /etc/sysconfig/rhn/sources to get
up2date to pick up the add-ons from either repository?

What are the chances of getting the [listname] feature turned on? Makes
it easier to quickly sort email...

more comments on Fedora Core
by Elton Woo
Gripe 1: why oh, *why* does sendmail take so looooooog to boot?
Except for this stick in the mud, everything else boots fast ... on an
AMD ...
Gripe 2: smartd ... *really*??? I thought it caused the *two* kernel
oopses because I left a diskette in the ls-120 (/dev/hdc) drive.
It also complains of read errors on the *empty* drive, as well as the
other _empty_ DVD (/dev/hdd) and CDRW (/dev/hdc) drives.
The "three-finger salute" doesn't help, only hitting the reset button
does... :-(
Elton.
P.S. Am I the only one who's thinking that maybe Severn and
(now) Fedora Core doesn't like Athlons??

==============================================
I recently installed the NVidia drivers, using export IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH=1
in order for the module to be complied with the default Fedora kernel.
I did notice some strange behavoir a few minutes age, while playing
Shisen-sho: the screen would suddenly go out of sync, and I had to
hit a key (moving the mouse didn't work) to restore my screen...
Did my glibc libraries get corrupted?
Recently during Severn beta1, and now with Fedora Core, I would
"lose" the mouse pointer, or it would freeze. Unplugging and replugging
the (USB) mouse into the hub would fix this frequent occurrence....

Re: problems with samba 3
by Rainer Hattenhauer
>Did you try the SignOrSeal registry fix on the XP box? I'm not sure
>if it's still required with Samba 3.0, but trying it can't hurt. . .
I can't imagine that this is the point: the connection to XP with samba
worked well with RH9 / old samba 2.x, so I think something has changed on
the samba / linux side, pointing towards a configuration problem of the new
samba 3.
Perhaps the problem will be solved when the peole will try to fix
redhat-config-samba, which is not working properly in my case.
By now, I did the following workaround to communicate with XP:
I use smbmount //192.168.0.1/<folder> /mnt/winxp
under linux, where 192.168.0.1 is the IP of my XP-box, <folder> is a public
folder on the XP-box and /mnt/winxp is the mount point on the red hat box.
Works in both directions, but it's not satisfying at all.
Greetings
Rainer
