MOPAC7 is still in good shape despite the age.
Also, I'm active in the field of computational chemistry myself.
So is MOPAC7 viable for Fedora? it's been dormant since 2006; is there a
better alternative that you (Susi) can recommend?
Actually, there's something strange going on: Sourceforge advertises version
1.11 from 2006, but the Fedora package seems to include version 1.15 from
2009 which I am not seeing anywhere I looked, compiled by Carl Byington.
What exactly is version 1.15?
Indeed, something strange:
$ cd /tmp
$ fedpkg clone mopac7
$ cd mopac7
$ spectool -g mopac7.spec
Getting
http://www.uku.fi/~thassine/projects/download/current/mopac7-1.15.tar.gz
to ./mopac7-1.15.tar.gz

curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 404 Not Found
The maintainer of the mopac7 package should fix the source0, or retire
the package.
Good luck,
