yum --exclude=xulrunner update works.
Yum doesn't want xulrunner. The repository has some packages that need to be rebuild which is a known issue. See previous discussions in this list before posting questions.

yum --exclude=xulrunner update works.
Yum doesn't want xulrunner.
Sure it does. See my earlier reply.

Language issue. "yum" itself doesn't "want" (as in require) xulrunner, which is what Rahul was saying. However due to improper obsoletes a yum update action will see xulrunner as obsoleting installed software and thus add it to the transaction, which is what you (and others) are saying. Both are right.

Not sure which one you are referring to. I understand X wants Y to specific a direct or indirect dependency which is not the case here. Yum is merely indicating a repository issue in this instance.

Ok, shame on me for giving you the benefit of the doubt. Yum update transactions /will/ in fact bring xulrunner into the transaction set. You could verify this yourself if you tried. Apologies to Michael.

You were correct. I was referring to direct/indirect dependencies to yum itself and not update transactions.

One in this thread.

A "repository issue" because it attempted at replacing firefox with xulrunner. Which is because "yum wants xulrunner" in the update transaction set.

Didn't get any other mails from you in this thread.

Right. As Jesse Keating, we are merely reading things differently.

yum --exclude=xulrunner update works.
and xulrunner is not installed:
rpm -q xulrunner package xulrunner is not installed
It is not installed, but in the yum metadata it replaces firefox and at the same time takes away packages capabilities required by other packages.
The xulrunner package includes things such as
Provides: gecko-libs = 1.9a7 Provides: gecko-libs = 1.9
Provides: libsqlite3.so <-- ought to be filtered out!
Obsoletes: firefox < 2.1
with some required package updates not being available yet.
