What on earth is /dev/uba? I'm getting continuous kernel errors about
it (I had to turn syslog off to stop the disk noise).

Its the ub driver... recently introduced upstream... pete has been
blogging about it.
But more importantly he commented on my bugreport.

Hopefully we will see a new development kernel very very soon that
disables the ub driver
and uses the older storage driver.
