= Agenda =
topics to discuss: gcc 4.3 and KDE 4 [1,2] development progress: the road to kde4 extragear packaging recent bugs: /usr/share/doc/HTML/en/common and kdelibs3 - kdelibs-common package [3]
= Summary =
o gcc 4.3 and KDE 4: - according to upstream gcc 4.3 could miscompile kde4 and may produce unusable kde4 applications - we have to find out when gcc-4.3 is actuall hitting rawhide - after that is done we have to rebuild all packages to figure out the problems and fill bugs
o development progress: the road to kde4: - only kdeadmin is left from the normal packages - kde-l10n will maybe finished by ThanNgo tomorrow - KevinKofler suggested to eventually drop most of kdelibs3-devel which isn't usefull anymore - review for extragear-plasma is still ongoing and will be updated to 3.97.0 by SebastianVahl - it will also obsolete kdeaddons since most of the packages/functions are now in extragear-plasma
o extragear packaging: - It would be good to package some modules from extragear which were in the base packages in KDE3: - extragear-base (all of it, or all that works, it's Konqueror plugins) - extragear-graphics: at least kiconedit and kcoloredit - extragear-multimedia: at least kmid and kaudiocreator - pim/ksig - if more than one app is in an extragear module it should be named like the module (e.g. extragear-multimedia) - packaging extragear modules won't get our primary attention. We should send a mail to fedora-devel-list with a list of the now missing apps from the base distribution and seek for maintainers who package them from extragear
o /usr/share/doc/HTML/en/common and kdelibs3: - kdelibs3 is now missing some things which are in kdelibs - we will prepare a kdelibs-common package (from kdelibs(4)) which is required by kdelibs3 and kdelibs
o Open Discussion: - LiveCD: yelp is pulling in firefox (again) which should be fixed (in yelp or in system-config-date which is requireing yelp) - the current package list of the livecd: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SebastianVahl/CurrentPackageList

You mean kdebase3-devel there. :-) What I want to remove is the libs which are only useful for KWin 3 styles, Konqueror 3 plugins, Kicker applets etc., because those can't be used with the KDE 4 version anyway.

After thinking a bit about that I disagree now. Eg. extragear-multimedia contains also amarok, k3b and kplayer which are packaged as single applications a long time (and IMHO supposed to be single apps): http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/extragear/multimedia/
And also they are released as single tarballs (at least for 3.97.0): ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/unstable/3.97/src/extragear
I think we should take the advantage here to package them as single applications. That's also one of the most wanted features from users. And the modules itself could differ in their release cycle.

I'm not suggesting to ship these as part of extragear-multimedia, also because they aren't really ready for KDE 4 yet (so we'll probably keep shipping the KDE 3 version) and AFAIK explicitly opted not to be included in the central extragear releases.
And also they are released as single tarballs (at least for 3.97.0): ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/unstable/3.97/src/extragear
That's a good argument for keeping them separate though.
