Disabling the memory cache of Firefox makes a significant difference in
term of memory use by Firefox for me, even on a 1G machine, it's generally
slower but doesn't lead to swap (so far).
Some pages do not display when I turn the cache off. For example
http://eucd.info/ (this may be some interaction with the extensions I
have installed)
