Hi Everyone, A thought that came up was maybe having a structured way of requesting new packages in the 'wishlist' thread.
So maybe having a simple template you follow for posting to the list for new package ideas:
Name: mypackage Version: 1.1 License: GPL Website: http://linux.duke.edu/mypackage/ Actively Maintained?: yes Packages exist?: yes (http://linux.duke.edu/mypackage/rpm/) Description: This is mypackage it does wonderful things. I especially like the --curediseases --solveworldhunger --promotepeace and --makedaylonger options.
Reasons for requesting: I like it a lot, it works well and it fits in well with the other panacea packages available in the panacea desktop.
Rough Software Requirements: libpeace libfood libvaccine libpipedreams gtk+ >= 2.2
=======
If everyone would do the background research to fill in this template for your wishlist package it would help out a lot.
Addendums to the templater are welcome.

Add into the Subject: of the email:
Subject: Package Request: mypackage
Name: mypackage Version: 1.1 <--- This is bound to change before inclusion.... License: GPL Language: Python Website: http://linux.duke.edu/mypackage/ Actively Maintained?: yes Author Contacted and Approved?: yes Packages exist?: yes (http://linux.duke.edu/mypackage/rpm/) Description: This is mypackage it does wonderful things.
Target: Alternatives/Extras/Core (Use the defined guidelines at fedora.redhat.com for where your package should land. If you chose Core, brief reason for why you feel it should be in Core and not Extras. If in Alternatives, please indicate what packages it would conflict with)

I added:
Author Contacted and Approved: Language: Subject: Target:
Name: TeXmacs Version: 1.0.2.9 (likely to change...) License: GPL Language: C++ Website: http://www.texmacs.org Actively Maintained?: yes Author Contacted and Approved?: yes Packages exist?: yes (ftp://ftp.texmacs.org/pub/TeXmacs/rpm/) Description: TeXmacs is a WYSIWYG text processor for producing highest-quality texts easily. It is great for texts with mathematical formulae (but can be used for plain texts, too). It can include PostScript figures (or any format which can be transformed to PostScript). It can be used as a GUI for many scientific computation systems (Maxima, Axiom, octave, ...) It can import and export LaTeX and html files, and can produce PostScript and pdf. It is not a front-end to TeX, but contains a native typesetting engine (in many ways similar to TeX, but with enhancements). It can be scripted/extended in scheme (guile).
Reasons for requesting: TeXmacs is the best tool for producing high-quality scientific documents. The only competitor seems to be LyX. But LyX is a front-end to LaTeX, and hence not WYSIWYG. Also, LyX cannot be used as a GUI for computer algebra systems.
Rough Software Requirements: guile guile-dev tetex (for fonts, METAFONT)
Target: Core TeXmacs is a clear and obvious winner in its class. This excellent package can be useful for many users. (As a minimum, it can be put to Extras, but I think putting it to Core is more appropriate).

https://bugzilla.fedora.us/show_bug.cgi?id=933 TeXmacs is already approved in PUBLISH status at fedora.us, so it will soon hit pending binary testing, then publication if approved there.
Hi Everyone, I compiled suggestions into this:
http://linux.duke.edu/~skvidal/misc/fedora-request-template.txt
Try to use this format for package requests. It'd help out a lot in organizing the requests and discussion.
If you're requesting a package in an RFE in bugzilla all of the information in this template would be worthwhile.
Thanks -sv
