'Enable software sound mixing (ESD)' is checked
$ pulseaudio -vv

ok I blew away everything in /tmp and logged back in. I am able to run
alsamixer now. Seems somewhere along the line /tmp got messed up. But I
don't see pulseaudio in ps -A. Should it be running?
On a side note, there was a lot of crap under /tmp. Should it be cleaned
up by itself?
