I recently took over maintaining the mathematical (computational exact linear algebra) library IML[1]. After a careful investigation, I’ve concluded that nothing in Fedora currently requires the static version of this library. Dependent packages linbox, sagemath, and Macaulay2 all use the shared library.
Given this, and given the general rule that static libraries should not be packaged in Fedora where it can be avoided, I plan to stop building the static library, drop the iml-static subpackage, and Obsolete the iml-static subpackage via the iml package—all in Rawhide only—assuming nobody speaks up to tell me that I’ve missed a reason to keep it around.

I'd recommend obsoleting it with the -devel package instead of the main one, since it's a devel-only subpackage anyway.

Thanks. That’s a good suggestion. I’ll do that [1].
