Well, the yum traceback after 81 minutes is another matter, I've opened a bugzilla for that ;-(
Is the above memory use during the transaction or before it?
If during, then file it against rpmlib.
Do this, re-run your test but check the memory use BEFORE you press 'y' to confirm the transaction. That's the amount of memory yum needs.
