Actually, it might not be necessary to have them parallel-installable.
If that is easy, then that's a nice property to have. But just being
able to install one or the other in mock is enough.
For what it's worth debian has compat packages so it doesn't look too bad:
configure --normal-flags --program-suffix=2.69
make pkgdatadir=/usr/share/autoconf2.69
mv /usr/share/autoconf /usr/share/autoconf2.69 (at install time)
seems to be most of it
(that said I do agree it's not worth spending hours on it)
