HEADS UP: upcoming giflib-5.1.4 update in rawhide
by Sandro Mani
Hi
Per GifLib5 change [1] I plan to start updating to giflib-5.1.4 tomorrow
evening. I'll start by building giflib-5.1.4 and then follow with the
transition package compat-giflib-4-1.6, which will provide the old
giflib-4.x dependency during the transition to giflib-5.x. Subsequently,
I'll rebuild the following packages
efl
emacs
fbida
fontforge
imlib2
kdelibs
kf5-khtml
leptonica
libextractor
libgdiplus
librasterlite2
ming
mtpaint
ocaml-camlimages
OpenSceneGraph
perl-Imager
perl-Prima
python-gd
sxiv
tracker-miners
vips
WindowMaker
xemacs
xplanet
driftnet
metapixel
MagicPoint
java-1.8.0-openjdk
java-9-openjdk
libwebp
gdal
mapserver
OpenImageIO
mathgl
I won't be porting/rebuilding imlib to/against giflib-5.x since its only
requiree is MagicPoint, which builds against imlib2, so I believe it
should just be retired.
Thanks
Sandro

Re: Give us a feedback on API situation
by Pavel Raiskup
Forwarding to Fedora devel. User perspective (API v1 vs. v2) is important.

KDE print dialog does not see CUPS settings
by Marcel Oliver
Hallo,
I am posting the following to the devel list because it's an annoying
bug, but I have no idea which component is reponsible to file a bug
report on bugzilla...
Since I upgraded to F27, the KDE print dialog (for me the most
relevant application is okular) fails to see the available printer
options, nor does it see the printer defaults. It also does not save
changed settings from one print job to the next. Other applications
(firefox, libreoffice, evince, ...) see the CUPS settings just fine.
This happens on the cinnamon desktop (Fedora cinnamon spin).
I do not know if this is a KDE problem, a problem with KDE integration
in Fedora in general, or with the cinnamon spin in particular, or
possibly related to CUPS, but would be willing to help debug the
issue.
It's not really serious, but pretty annoying and a regression of
something which definitely worked without issues for many years.
Regards,
Marcel

mock slow to get new packages for Rawhide?
by Richard Shaw
With the recent gcc 8 issues I've been trying to do some build tests on my
system but I keep getting
gcc-8.0.1-0.9.fc28 even after performing a --scrub=all instead of
gcc-8.0.1-0.13.fc28 which was built yesterday or even gcc-8.0.1-0.12.fc28
from the 9th...
What gives? It can't just be slow mirror propagation...
Thanks,
Richard

Please review use /$ in %files (Was: Re: Escaping macros in %changelog)
by Tomasz Kłoczko
BTW some massively occurring errors in really big number Fedora of specs.
Looks like many people don't know that %files entry like:
/some/directory/
does not include /some/directory into package but all files and
subdirectories which are in /some/directory.
This is in how many specs such lines are used:
[tkloczko@domek SPECS.fedora]$ grep ^%\{.*\/$ * | grep -v __ | awk -F\.
'{print $1}' | uniq| wc -l
4827
There is
[tkloczko@domek SPECS.fedora]$ grep ^%\{.*\/$ * | grep -v __ | wc -l
17762
such entries in all fedora spec files.
What it is causing such mistake everyone can check by executing
$ (for i in /usr/{lib64,exec,share}; do find $i -name \*; done) 2>&1 |
xargs rpm -qf |grep "is not owned by any package"
