ikvm and gnu classpath
by Paul F. Johnson
Hi,
Looking more into the problems in getting ikvm to build from source and
it looks like it won't be as simple as I thought as it does need to
build against the sources of gnu-classpath (which is a pain to be
honest!) to build it's main application.
Is there a problem with a spec file pulling in the sources from another
tarball, decompressing, moving the required files across and then
building correctly?

Getting ikvm back into rawhide correctly
by Paul F. Johnson
Hi,
I'm part way there with a little bit of force! There seems to be two
main problems, one is a show stopper, the other a pain which can be
worked around.
The showstopper is that the build script requires javac. I can fix that
if I knew what the java byte compiler that is shipped with Fedora is. I
know we have gcj and the open sourced java compiler, but I'm not sure if
they ship with javac (or an implementation thereof).
The second which can be worked around is that ikvm ships with prebuilt
binaries bits. Okay, not a biggie, as the documentation says that it
doesn't need it, but refers to it, so I just need to put the class
library into a Requires field and that should do it.
Any help on these would be appreciated.

macbook pro xorg.conf modeline problem
by Ted Toth
I had been using this mode line along with the vesa driver on previous
versions of fedora:
Modeline "1440x900x60" 108.84 1440 1472 1880 1912 900 918 927 946
However with FC9 preview it no longer works and the xserver fails to start
complaining "No matching modes". I've also tried using gtf to build a
modeline but that doesn't work either. Anyone got a working modeline?

Orphaned package still in the repo
by Christoph Wickert
Hi everybody,
I orphaned gnome-ppp on April, 5th, nevertheless it was copied to the F9
and Rawhide repos on April 15th. Why? The program is dead upstream and
I'd like to get rid of this package ASAP, if possible before F9.

what's the brief grand-plan for java ?
by Caolán McNamara
What's the three liner for java openjdk/icedtea/libgcj in the fedora
future ? is it...
Port icedtea to all platforms that libgcj supports, move to icedtea as
default when stable and drop ahead-of-time-gcj-compiling ?
Or is it planned to always aot compile stuff by default and continue to
support using gij as java ?
C.
