Closing FEver bugs
by Debarshi Ray
When should we close the bugs generated by FEver
(http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/PackageMaintainers/FEver) to indicate
availability of new upstream releases? The bugs are filed against the
'devel' branch, so should we close it when it is available in Rawhide
or wait for it to be available in the stable branches too? Should we
close it as CURRENTRELEASE or NEXTRELEASE?
Happy hacking,
Debarshi

Odd failed dependency...
by Richard Hughes
Does the printing config tool call into pirut to install something?
[root@hughsie-laptop ~]# rpm -e pirut
error: Failed dependencies:
pirut is needed by (installed) system-config-printer-0.7.74.1-1.fc8.i386
Any ideas of the mechanism if this is the case? Thanks,
Richard.

screen blanking considered useless
by Florin Andrei
In text mode, the console goes blank after a predetermined time - I
think it's 15 minutes or something like that.
I would argue that this is unnecessary nowadays. Machines in text mode
these days are typically servers, and those run headless in the vast
majority of cases (or with the monitor turned off to save power). Screen
blanking does nothing in that case, and it's actually confusing when you
switch inputs in the console multiplexer - is this input actually
connected, or is the machine powered off, or is just the screen blank?
It seems like screen blanking is a remnant from the days when systems
running in text mode with a monitor attached and powered on were a lot
more likely. Nowadays, this is probably very rare.
What I usually do on servers is run "setterm -blank 0" on each server,
then add the same command to rc.local so it's persistent. But this is
unnecessary work for the sysadmin.
It would be nice to have an option somewhere in the installer allowing
the sysadmin to set the blanking time, or disable it altogether. My
preference would be to disable it by default and let the sysadmin
override that in the installer, but I think it's fine if it's enabled by
default as long as it can be changed in the installer (and it becomes a
kickstart parameter too).

Problems about xulrunner
by Yuan Yijun
Hi,
I have 3 questions
1. I want to rebuild chmsee against xulrunner, but to compile chmsee,
in its configure script, it looks for xulrunner-gtkmozembed.pc. I
don't know how to handle this. Only 3 .pc files are provided with
xulrunner-devel (-js, -plugin, -xpcom). Any transition guide?
2. I downloaded chatzilla.zip from
http://chatzilla.rdmsoft.com/xulrunner/ and have to install it in the
following steps:
* su - root
* run xulrunner --register-global <= why not do it in RPM spec?
* run xulrunner --install-app chatzilla.zip, then
* goto /usr/lib/chatzilla and change files and directories'
permissions, because original permissions are all 0400. <= isn't
xulrunner supposed to install them properly?
* run chatzilla, quit it, then copy
~/.mozilla/firefox/__.profile/prefs.js to ~/.chatzilla/__.profile/,
overwrite existing one. <= Since firefox has been removed, I cannot
export settings easily.
3. when using chatzilla, the font selection strategy seems to have
something wrong. The chinese comma is displayed as "FF0C" if it is
used after latin alnums.

/bin/tcsh not in default install anymore?
by Thomas J. Baker
Is it a bug or a feature that tcsh is no longer installed by default
anymore? Maybe it was never explicitly listed but something pulled it in
on a default install? Most people around here use it as their shell.
Thanks,
tjb

lvm issues with rawhide
by Chitlesh GOORAH
Hello there,
yesterday I spinned a FEL live image based on rawhide.
During the installation from the live image, just before formatting
HDD liveinst spits the following exception:
http://chitlesh.fedorapeople.org/FEL/lvmcrash.txt
The rpms installed are listed here:
http://chitlesh.fedorapeople.org/FEL/rpmlist
Thus before the exception occurs the KDE pops a dialog to mount /boot.
Any idea how to disable this at the same time, allowing the dialog if
one plugs a USB stick ?
Once the exception occurs, there is no other way to use the HDD again
other than reformatting the hdd with a F7 KDE live cd.
Also any idea when the Avahi service failure will be corrected ?
regards,
Chitlesh
PS: I may not reply to this email till monday.

Is xulrunner going to remove firefox in tomorrow's rawhide?
by Martin Sourada
hi,
I noticed, xulrunner was successfully built for devel (finally), but I
see there one issue - it obsoletes firefox < 2.1 but it does not supply
it's functionality (unless you use only the libraries, like in epiphany,
liferea, etc.). If I understand it correctly it means that tomorrow's
rawhide will have a lot of dependency problems (new gecko-libs and
removal of firefox) and on systems that don't have any packages
dependent on firefox or gecko-libs even a removal of firefox. This isn't
intended, is it? Or do you have already prepared firefox 3 (still alpha)
for rawhide? An easy solution to this, IMHO, would be removal of the
obsolete from xulrunner and removal of the gre(64).conf file from
firefox package (it clashes with xulrunner's).
Thanks,
Martin

svnkit contains
Obsoletes: javasvn < 1.1.0
but javasvn is 1.1.0:
find extras-tree/6 -name javasvn\*.src.rpm
extras-tree/6/SRPMS/javasvn-1.1.0-0.3.beta4.fc6.src.rpm
Please fix before the javasvn pkgs can be removed.
