koji weirdness
by Hans de Goede
Hi all,
I'm working on updating libgda + libgnomedb to 3.0.x for F-8 / future rawhide
(more on that later) and yesterday evening before going to bed I queued a build
of libgda-3.0.1, which completed successfully. This morning I build
libgnomedb-3.0.0, which correctly got its buildroot populated with the fresh
libgda-3.0.0 . So next I tried to build gnumeric against the new libgda +
libgnomedb, but populating the root failed with:
Executing /usr/sbin/mock-helper yum --installroot
/var/lib/mock/dist-f8-build-5517-1020/root resolvedep 'intltool' 'pygtk2-devel
>= 2.6.0' 'libgnomeprintui22-devel >= 2.8.2' 'libgnomedb-devel >= 3.0.0'
'python-devel' 'scrollkeeper' 'gettext' 'automake' 'desktop-file-utils >= 0.9'
'libgnomeui-devel >= 2.4.0' 'libgsf-gnome-devel >= 1.13.2' 'goffice-devel >=
0.2.0' 'libtool' 'autoconf' 'guile-devel'
0:intltool-0.35.5-3.fc7.x86_64
0:pygtk2-devel-2.10.4-2.fc7.x86_64
0:libgnomeprintui22-devel-2.18.0-1.fc7.x86_64
1:libgnomedb-devel-1.9.100-15.fc7.x86_64
0:python-devel-2.5-12.fc7.x86_64
0:scrollkeeper-0.3.14-11.fc7.x86_64
0:gettext-0.16.1-8.fc7.x86_64
0:automake-1.10-5.noarch
0:desktop-file-utils-0.12-4.fc7.x86_64
0:libgnomeui-devel-2.18.1-2.fc7.x86_64
0:libgsf-gnome-devel-1.14.3-4.fc7.x86_64
0:goffice-devel-0.2.2-1.fc7.x86_64
0:libtool-1.5.22-11.fc7.x86_64
0:autoconf-2.61-8.fc7.noarch
5:guile-devel-1.8.1-3.fc7.x86_64
Notice how it says its going to include libgnomedb-devel-1.9.100, not 3.0.0
and then:
Error: Missing Dependency: libgda-3.so.3()(64bit) is needed by package libgnomedb
Which figures, as that is the old 1.9.100 libgda .so
For the full log see:
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/getfile?taskID=18756&name=root.log
So why is koji finding the new libgda, but not the new libgnomedb, is some
kinda sync script running for this at regular intervals, or ... ?
Regards,
Hans

init script bugs and changes
by Jesse Keating
Harald, I appreciate your dillagence in filing all these bugs, however I think
a change like this needs to go through the Fedora Packaging Committee.
You're asking folks to change content in init scripts when there hasn't been
much / any discussion on the topic. If we're going to make this policy going
forward, it really needs to be in the packaging guidelines, and approved by
FESCo.

perl-devel will be removed from the f8 buildroots
by Robin Norwood
Hi,
On Monday, perl-devel will be removed from the f8 buildroots. This
means that if you try to build a perl-* package that uses the perl build
tools, you will need to add those tools to the BuildRequires for the
package. The most common will be:
BuildRequires: perl(ExtUtils::MakeMaker)
But you should also watch the build output to make sure tests aren't
being skipped due to other missing modules.

FE once had the convention to have an InitialCC to
fedora-perl-devel-list at redhat dot com
for all perl-modules.
Has this convention been dropped or is this an oversight?

Re: Here are some of my ideas for Fedora 8 and Fedora 9
by kwhiskerz
I am definitely opposed to the inclusion of such nuisance programs like Beagle
and ilk (google desktop has slipped into Sun Java and Adobe Flash, I think,
unless a custom install is chosen - or was that only in Windows?).
My last experience with Beagle was not good. Huge use of CPU, like 100%
frequently throughout the day, the indexing of personal material, like my
personal journal, recording of sites I have visited and having them indexed,
even if they were of no interest to me, simply because a search machine
presented them as a possibility, taking up lots of space on my drive, huge
risk of breech of confidentiality and privacy, etc.
No, no, no!

konqueror backtraces
by Steve G
Hi,
I'm trying to chase down some KDE bugs in rawhide and installed the debuginfo
packages. But I constantly get this message on my x86_64 machine when konqueror
crashes on malformed html:
"This backtrace appears to be of no use.
This is probably because your packages are built in a way which prevents creation
of proper backtraces, or the stack frame was seriously corrupted in the crash."
Is KDE built wrong?
