PR: thunderbird-enigmail, building own thunderbird inside?
by Martin Sourada
Hi,
I'd like to take an enigmail review (bz #239336), but there is an issue
I'd like to discuss more broadly here. Partial thunderbird build + some
files from thunderbird sources are needed for enigmail to be built.
These are the very files, IMO, that should go to thunderbird-devel
package if there were any. Alas, there isn't, so to build enigmail
extension, which has sources about 0.5 MB big and does not take long to
build, we need to include thunderbird sources in the spec and build
thunderbird there, which makes the srpm much bigger (from less then 1 MB
to more than 35 MB), brings issue of duplicit source files in more
packages and makes build much longer.
I am not quite sure, how to approach this specific issue. Because, as I
said, if we do it the way it is done now (in the review request) it
would be very ineffective, we cannot add it to thunderbird package
itself - that's out of question, it's an extension not necessary part -
and that leaves us third way, which has not been trodden yet, I think -
make the thunderbird-devel package, which would have all the necessary
files in it. Than we would be able to patch the enigmail to build
against it.
What do you think of it? There are no guidelines yet for packaging
firefox/thunderbird extensions, and enigmail, as many of us use it to
gpg sign our mails, would be good to have.
Thanks,
Martin

Explaining the new suspend quirks functionality in F7
by Richard Hughes
New in Fedora 7 we have the new pm-utils and hal-info dmi based matching
of suspend quirks. We are doing finer matching to the laptop make and
model, to make suspend (and more importantly resume) work for more
people.
What this means:
* Some machines that suspended in FC6 might not work in F7
* Lots of machines that did not suspend in FC6 might work in F7
So, if you have to edit a file or add stuff to grub to get suspend
working in F7, that's a bug. This stuff should just work on the majority
or laptops.
To help, and to try and make clearer all this new stuff, I've written a
few pages here:
http://people.freedesktop.org/~hughsient/temp/quirk/quirk-intro.html
This is not the permanent location, nor are these documents finished -
I'm hoping to add more and more content to them over the next few days.
So please point out new ideas, typos or maybe just general questions,
and I'll try to answer then on these pages as best I can.
Feedback welcome,
Richard Hughes

vde2 - package submission
by Gerry Reno
I have been wanting to see a VDE2 package for Fedora for a while now
and so I took a little time to write a spec file for it. I have used it
to build fc6 i386 (my platform) RPMS/SRPM. Not sure if the fedora-devel
list is where I should submit these but I would like to contribute these
to Fedora as I think in light of increased QEMU usage that this would be
of interest to the general community and is a good candidate for having
it included in Fedora directly.
Gerry

#- (ref: http://vde.sourceforge.net)
#- VDE can be used to configure QEMU Guest access to the local HOST network:

%description
VDE is a virtual network that can be spawned over a set of physical computers over the Internet
VDE connects together:
(1) real GNU-linux boxes (tuntap)
(2) virtual machines: UML-User Mode Linux, qemu, bochs, MPS.
VDE can be used:
(i) to create a general purpose tunnel
(any protocol that runs over Ethernet can be put into the tunnel)
(ii) to connect a set of virtual machines to the Internet with no
need of free access of tuntap
(iii) to support mobility: a VDE can stay interconnected despite
of the change of virtual cables, i.e. the change of IP addresses
and interface in the real world
VDE2 includes:
VLAN and Fast Spanning Tree Protocol management
run time configuration interface:
(a console for interactive use, a control terminal for daemons)
wirefilter, a configurable tool able to introduce:
delays, packet loss, linut bandwidth and several other filtering features

Why isn't emacs installed by default
by Shams
Hi,
I was just wondering is there any reason that emacs is not selected and
installed by default ie. with just the default install options in Anaconda..
Thanks

"core"
by Florian La Roche
Hello alll,
I just saw that some apache dir listings show a small
bomb if a directory is named "core". For the next
rename of directories we might want to move "core"
again to something else then.
E.g. look at:

Just umount the DVD if it has mounted automatically. And then re mount
it under /media/DVD for example. It works well for me :-)

I don't know about this all that much but could you maybe try and do an
install with media created by Revisor? We have no multilib dependency
resolving yet but we do set compatible archs. I'm curious as to whether
we (Revisor) does anything wrong with not doing the multilib magic.
Thank you in advance,
