That does not in ANY way change the fact that a linking a binary driver
with the kernel is in violation with the GPL. Linking in this case makes
the module derived work of the kernel and therefore subject to the terms
of the GPL.
The only thing separating nvidia and a lawsuit is that they don't ship
the module linked to the kernel, they make you do the actual law
breaking. The module in question has no purpose or functionality without
the kernel and is clearly designed to work with it. It is derived work
for all intends and purposes, by design.
Ask a lawyer or plainly listen to any kernel developer.
I have no special jihad against nvidias engineers, they just as a vendor
have to stop violating the terms of our license that's all, I'm sure
they are otherwise fine upstanding people.
If your argument is questioning my age and naivety in addition to
implying that I somehow think nvidia engineers are no better people than
your average Hollywood satanist.. then I suggest you go back to the
drawing board.

I already live in one thank you very much, but that is besides the
point. Moving myself will not make nvidia stop violating the terms of
the license.
The nv driver works perfectly fine, I have used it for years, the only
thing that doesn't work with it is accelerated 3d. I would hardly call
that crippled to the point of not being usable. Lacking desirable
functionality sure but it still has support for 2d which means at least
we can display X on such setups.
Now did you have an argument or did you just want to sling insults at
me?

libsysfs disappearing
by Hans de Goede
Hi,
I'm currently involved in a discussion on the lm_sensors mailinglist and
there someone is claiming that libsysfs will disappear from most
distro's in the near future. He claims that the main reason for libsysfs
disappearing from most distros is because udev no longer uses it.
Since I'm planning on doing some development work on libsensors and
libsensors use libsysfs, I would like to know what the future of
libsysfs is for Fedora?
Thanks & Regards,
Hans

kernel update and 100% CPU nash
by Dan Horák
Hello,
I have got again the 100% CPU for nash during today's kernel update with
yum. The system gets to the following state:
- nash takes 100% CPU
- 2 processes of mkinitrd are running
- initrd for the new kernel is created
- grub.conf is not updated
Then I kill the nash (kill 7634) and the yum's update continues without
any related error and also the grub.conf is updated.
The last kernel I had installed was 2.6.17-1.2396 and the new was
2.6.17-1.2405. SELinux policy packages were updated during the same
transaction, but before the kernel update.
Here is the list of processes running:

BZ 108848: Enable SPARSE memory config on ia64
by Prarit Bhargava
I think we have a better feeling for the behaviour of SPARSE under
ia64. From
the lmbench results it looks like we're seeing an overall performance
improvement...
Dave, please apply the attached patch.
