Bluez-liibs-3.0 in FC6?
by David Woodhouse
I was just looking at updating the BlueZ packages in rawhide, and I
noticed that bluez-libs has changed its major solib version number.
Is it really incompatible with libbluetooth.so.1 now, and can't be
equipped with backward-compatibility?
Should we go ahead and update it, then also rebuild libbtctl,
gnome-bluetooth, etc?
And would someone _please_ take bluez-pin off my hands -- I know nothing
about dbus and GTK+, and except for the dbus requests, bluez-pin doesn't
really interact with the _Bluetooth_ stuff at all.

Core i386 rawhide rebuild in mock status 2006-06-08
by Matt Domsch
I modified my mock chroots to exactly match the minimal list that
Extras will start using this week. Unfortunately, this means that
autoconf, automake, libtool, and m4 fell out of the preinstalled
chroots, which leads to additional build failures we haven't seen
before. Most of the new failures are due to one of these. This is a
full rebuild of rawhide starting 2006-06-07 plus the refreshed
packages from 2006-06-08. There are still many packages below with
bugs filed but marked as CLOSED but are still failing.

The problem you're poorly diagnosing isn't really in yum. The crux of
the problem is out of sync mirrors being in the mirror list. That's a
problem we're working on now by taking some work that another project
has done to check the status of a mirror to make sure that the metadata
it has matches the metadata that the mirror master has.
To give you a useful analogy to the situation you're experiencing: This
is like complaining that firefox is a bad browser b/c all of the
websites you're visiting are down. OR complaining that you are riding a
bad bike b/c all the roads are closed.

Extras i386 rawhide rebuild in mock status 2006-06-08
by Matt Domsch
Note: This is using the extremely reduced chroot as documented in the Extras
Exception List.
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging/Guidelines#head-4cadce5e79d38a63c...
automake, autoconf, libtool and m4 had accidentally been included in
my buildroots from previous runs; they're removed in this and
subsequent runs, which will cause additional build failures.
Extras tree as of Thursday afternoon; it takes quite a while to
rebuild 1800 packages on 2 architectures. :-)
In addition, about 5 packages (all perl modules IIRC) managed to hang
in 'make test'. I manually killed those after ~16 hours, and they'll
show up as failed builds below.

RELEASE: Mach 0.9.0 'Cambria'
by Thomas Vander Stichele
This mail announces the release of Mach 0.9.0 'Cambria'.
mach allows you to set up clean roots from scratch for any distribution or
distribution variation supported. Currently, this is limited to RPM-based
distributions.
This clean build root can be used for making clean packages, running
jailed services, testing builds, or making disk images of clean roots.
For more information, see [http://thomas.apestaart.org/projects/mach/]
To file bugs, go to [https://apestaart.org/thomas/trac/newticket]
mach - make a chroot - RELEASE NOTES
------------------------------------
Announcing the release of mach 0.9.0 - Cambria.
WHAT IS IT
----------
mach allows you to set up clean roots from scratch for any distribution or
distribution variation supported.
This clean build root can be used to run jailed services, create disk images,
or build clean packages.
mach can currently set up roots for the following distributions:
- Fedora 4, 5 (core, updated, extras, rpm.livna.org,
JPackage, FreshRPMS, GStreamer)
- Fedora 1, 2, 3 (core, updated, www.fedora.us, rpm.livna.org,
JPackage, FreshRPMS, GStreamer)
- Red Hat 8.0, 9 (basic, updated, www.fedora.us, rpm.livna.org,
JPackage, GStreamer, FreshRPMS)
- Red Hat 7.2, 7.3 (basic, updated, FreshRPMS, JPackage)
- Red Hat 7.0, 7.1 (basic, updated, FreshRPMS)
- SuSE 8.1/8.2/9
- Connectiva
- Yellowdog Linux 3.0 (basic, updated, FreshRPMS)
- Yellowdog Linux 2.3 (basic, updated, FreshRPMS)
- Dave/Dina 0.0/oven/fridge
Read the README included in the distribution for a better overview.
CHANGES
-------
- Fix livna.org and rawhide URL's (Ville)
- Fix "revert to build list" such that it can deal with
upgraded versions of the build packages, as well as
deal with packages with broken post/postun scripts (Thomas)
- make sure we refresh local repository cache with
yum >= 2.6.0 (Nigel)
- always recreate repository config files, so that changes
to "location" are effective immediately (Thomas)
- Add JPackage URL's for FC3, 4, 5 (Ville)
- mach clean also cleans out the local repo (Thomas)
WHY WOULD YOU USE IT
--------------------
mach is helpful:
- to create minimal chroot environments to jail services in
- to create clean packages for distributions
- to catch spec file mistakes, missing buildrequires, and more
INFORMATION
-----------
mach's homepage is at http://thomas.apestaart.org/projects/mach/
mach is hosted on SourceForge; the project page is
http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/mach/
There is a mailing list for development and use of mach. See
http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/mach-devel
QUICKSTART
----------
a) On a Fedora 4 Core system, install the mach rpm from
http://thomas.apestaart.org/download/mach
b) su - mach
c) mach setup base
d) mach chroot
poke around a bit in the fresh root
e) exit
f) mach rebuild http://ayo.freshrpms.net/fedora/linux/4/i386/SRPMS.core/vorbis-tools-1.0....
If all goes well, you'll get a nice freshly built vorbis-tools package.
Now go out, experiment and bug report !
MAILING LIST
------------
A mailing list has been set up for discussion of mach use and development.
Check http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/mach-devel for information.
The list is low-volume.
BUGS
----
To file bugs, go to https://apestaart.org/thomas/trac
Always state what platform you are running on, if it's a clean install or
somehow updated, how I can reproduce the bug, and output of a run of
the failed command with -d (debugging).

Just to make sure, I'd get and force-feed the new package to rpm, in case
the uninstallation damaged something (== deleted some files from the new
version).

Good uninstallation practice?
by Émeric Maschino
Hi,
What's the correct way to manually uninstall a package that failed to
uninstall during an update? For example, during the update of
hal-cups-utils with today's Rawhide, I'm getting:
Cleanup : hal-cups-utils #####################
[224/257]
error: %postun(hal-cups-utils-0.5.5-2.ia64) scriptlet failed, exit
status 1
I now have hal-cups-utils-0.5.5-2 and hal-cups-utils-0.6.0-1 installed
on my system and would like to uninstall the old one.
Thanks,
Émeric
