A few suggestions for FC6 Anaconda softraid setup
by Hans Kristian Rosbach
This is all based on FC2-5 experiences, have not tested current rawhide.
I also don't have this in front of me so I don't quite remember
the button names.
Follow the GUI install and choosing customize partition setup,
now if you want to set up a softraid then you need to create
softraid partitions. Click the raid (or something) button and
choose the top (of the 3 possible) selection. Now anaconda has
preselected all disks available on your system, this will usually
be 2 disks in a softraid config but sometimes more.
Problem is anaconda only accepts 1 selection at a time, so I
suggest that either it does not select any or it becomes possible
to create the specified partition on several disks at once.
(If option two, the next screen could just be the FS/mountpoint
setup screen)
A similar problem appears when you want to create the actual
raid and filesystem over your now created partitions.
You click the raid button again and select the middle option (of 3).
Anaconda has now preselected all softraid partitions and you need
to remove selections so that you only end up with the ones
appropriate for the mountpoint you now want to set up.
This all seems backward, deselecting instead of selecting.
Also it gets pretty annoying when you for example have 4-15 disks
and each has 5+ partitions. You spend an eternity just deselecting
all those disks and partitions.
(I also wouldnt mind if the partition selecting box would grow
a little when the screen area is big enough and a lot of partitions
are present.)
Hopefully you understand what I meant, I feel my description is
a bit clumsy so I'll clarify if needed.

Old Flex version in FC5?
by Benjamin Thery
Hello,
I use Fedora Core 5 to test Mobile IPv6 on Linux.
In a recent version of the mobility daemon source code a change made
to a lex file make the build failson FC5. This changes introduced some
flex options to reduce warnings output during compilation.
To my surprise these options are not supported by the current flex
version shipped with FC5. I found it strange because FC5 is very
recent. Then, googling a bit, I discovered that flex state seems a bit
confusing:
- Fedora ships 2.5.4a (released in 1997)
- Gentoo has 2.5.33
- Debian has two different packages flex-old (2.5.4a) and flex (2.5.33)
My question is: why does Fedora ships flex 2.5.4a and not a more
recent one?
What are the mysteries behind flex versioning?
Thanks,
Benjamin

hinting/autohinting in rawhide / FC6T1 fontconfig
by Nicolas Mailhot
Hi,
Does anyone knows what's the logic
behind /etc/fonts/conf.d/unhinted.conf
and /etc/fonts/conf.d/autohint.conf
Won't those files disable hinting and force autohinting for all fonts ?
If so what's the point of fine-tuning hinting in other fontconfig
files ?
Also does this mean we'll never use font hints even on well-hinted
fonts ?
Regards,

Fedora Automated Realistic Test Suite (FARTS)
but seriously, please pick something that at least gives a clue about
what the project is about. I have no idea (from the name) what mugshot
or dogtail are about. I know this is against the open source tradition
of cute or obscure names but real engineering isn't about cute and
obscure...

This is very machine-dependent. My current machine just can't boot from USB
or Firewire. Next one does...
