Compiling pcmcia drivers...
by Thomas Fischer
All,
I need to compile a specific version of a card driver for a PCMCIA driver. The
soruce code requires that I use the pcmcia-cs source package.
Where can I find a version that is compatible with the current kernel version?
IS there another solution I am not aware of, if so could someon explain?
Thanks

FORTIFY_SOURCE for the kernel
by David Nielsen
Hi List
A while back when FC5 was in it's infancy, Arjen mentioned a very
interesting FORTIFY_SOURCE support patch for the kernel, does anyone
know if this is any closer to inclusion, I've done some casual LKML
searching and I can't even find any debate on this feature.
I mostly ask because I was going over the Wishlist for FC5 and it stood
out as an interesting feature.

gnome x shutdown needs cancel
by sean darcy
I run X with 4 workspaces. If I try to shutdown or reboot,
often it hangs because it's waiting for a "close or cancel"
window in another workspace. IOW, I'm in workspace 4. I try
to shutdown, gedit on workspace 1, displays a window asking
about saving a new file ( I can see it appear in the
Wokspace Switcher ). Shutdown hangs, but I can't get to
workspace 1. The only way out is ctl-alt-backspace.
Maybe kde does it better, and maybe there's some clever
keystroke combo that would cancel the shutdown, but in IMHO,
there should be a popup in the active workspace ( or maybe a
shift to the workspace with the message?).

libtrash in fedora Core 5
by Bernhard Suttner
Helo fedora people,
I had a big problem yesterday. I have deleted some important files on a
ext3 filesystem. As you know, with ext3 you can not undelete files (I
have tested undelete, recover, unrm, grep, e2undel and many more).
So I have searched for a "solution" to the "delete" problem, and I have found
libtrash. If you have installed libtrash, all files you delete go into a directory "trash". If you are sure, you can delete the file really.
Would it be possible to add libtrash to the Fedora Core 5?
Greets,
Bernhard Suttner

Attention: dbus 0.60-6 breaks avahi, hal ...
by Joachim Frieben
After udating "dbus" packages to version 0.60-6, "avahi" and
"hal" daemons fail to start up correctly during system boot.
This is very annoying when logging in to a "GNOME" session
as various applications such as the "gnome-power-manager" stop
to work. Media detection is of course also out of order.
The breakage has appeared sometime between version 0.60-3 which
works correctly and the current version. Downgrading to version
0.60-3 allows to recover a working "GNOME" desktop.

RPM groups and comps groups, was: FC5T2 ready for even a test release?

Maybe an RPM package's group should match the (default/primary) comps
group of that package. That way we theoretically could have a
"comps-merge" tool which would update comps with new packages,
automatically sorting them into their respective default/primary groups
(perhaps marking them as "fuzzy" just to overstretch the gettext
analogy ;-).
