dev rpm update problem
by Ricardo Veguilla
I get this error when updating to dev-3.11-1:
Cannot install the dev package: mounted devfs detected.
error: %pre(dev-3.11-1) scriptlet failed, exit status 1
error: install: %pre scriptlet failed (2), skipping dev-3.11-1
I know this was happening previously with the MAKEDEV rpm, but it seems
like it was solved in that case (by removing the %pre script?).
Anyway, how do I upgrade the package? Is this a bug?

yum 2.1.3
by seth vidal
Hey folks,
I just posted yum 2.1.3 to:
http://linux.duke.edu/projects/yum/download/2.1/
This one needs some abusing. I made a bunch of changes to the depsolver
to resolve some problems that testing against rawhide has shown. I think
I've gotten most of them ironed out but I need more people to do more
and bizarre things with it to tell, completely.
If you find some behavior on an update/install/erase that you think is
incorrect run the same command with -d 5 and post the output to either:
http://devel.linux.duke.edu/bugzilla/
or
http://bugzilla.redhat.com
so I can get debugging info to solve the problems.
I especially want more tests on multilib machines. I've tested it on my
x86 and x86_64 boxes quite a bit but there is always someone whose
configuration is significantly more weird. :)
Thanks!

yum 2.1.0
by seth vidal
Hi All,
I'm only sending this to devel lists b/c using this release should be
for people who are:
1. comfortable with python tracebacks
2. comfortable with things breaking from time to time
3. comfortable with reporting bugs and using bugzilla.
So, with that in mind.
I'm pleased(sorta) to announce yum 2.1.0. This is using the new xml-
based repository metadata (http://linux.duke.edu/metadata).
NB: THIS CAN ONLY BE USED WITH REPOSITORIES THAT ARE USING THE NEW
METADATA FORMAT. THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH OLD-STYLE YUM-ARCH
REPOSITORIES.
What's New:
- all sorts of things, not the least of which is a huge percentage of
the code. :)
- I've not documented all the new things, if someone would like to
point out things, please, do so.
What's Known to be Broken:
- all the docs are wrong or somewhat wrong - if you want to know about
config variables read yum/config.py - that should be VERY clear
- all the groups functions do not work - they're just not hooked up
- all the clean functions do nothing
- the search and provides functions are not hooked up, either.
- when updating a kernel it will not make the new kernel the default
boot kernel.
What's Known to Work:
yum install/update/upgrade/remove/
yum list
yum info
yum generate-rss
What needs to be done:
- translations
- clean up some output
- docs
- group functions
- clean functions
- search/provides/query/etc
- all sorts of goodies I've missed while writing infrastructure.
Where you get it:
http://linux.duke.edu/yum/download/2.1/
Where you report bugs:
https://devel.linux.duke.edu/bugzilla/
Where you send hatemail:
Either yum-devel list or fedora-devel-list.
Thanks,
-sv

[Fwd: OpenLDAP 2.1 -> Historic]
by Dax Kelson
It would be unfortunate if FC3 and RHEL4 (more so) still uses OpenLDAP
v2.1.

OpenLDAP Software 2.1 is now considered Historic. Users
of OpenLDAP Software 2.1 are encouraged to update to
at least latest "stable" release. All Release
Engineering activities on the OPENLDAP_REL_ENG_2_1
branch are now official discontinued (they have been
informally discontinued for many months).

Lao TTf OT fonts
by Anousak Souphavanh
Dear all,
(Forgive me if this list is not the right one to be asking)
After successful install Fedora Core 2, and love it, I then try to install
Lao TTF OT fonts. Two years ago, I have got Lao KDE working on Mandrake and
Redthat 7.0, which involved the following steps. However, some of the things
I do might have been changed or may have not needed anymore, especially with
new Xfree86. Please help me out and thanks in advance.
What I have done:
Font installation (Lao ttf OT)
copy *ttf to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF
run 'ttmkfdir > fonts.scale'
run 'mkfontdir'
run 'xset ft rehash'
I wasn't able to run 'xftcache'
run 'setxkbmap -v lo -option grp:alt_toggle_shift '
After finished these steps, I then checked to see if the keyboard layout for
Lao is selected, it was. I also checked to see if my ttf fonts I installed
were being selected or not, there weren't any.
1) Any other file(s) or anything I need to tweak?
2) Where are default fonts?
Cheers,
Anousak Souphavanh

Kernel 2.6.8-1.521 breaks Cisco VPN client...
by Kim B. Nielsen
Just to report it, the 2.6.8-1.521 kernel breaks the Cisco VPN client in
a very odd way.
The current network configuration og the laptop I'm using, is a wireless
network card, and an normal network card (wirefull).
The funny thing is, that when i start the client on the wireless
interface, everything is fine, and everything works as it's supposed to.
If i then shifts to the wire, UDP packages suddently isn't comming
throug, but tcp connections work fine. That is, no name server
resolution, but I'm able to ping and access sites with the ip.
I know that the vpn client is Cisco's responsibility, but I thought I
would mention it to you, in case that it points to something gone bad in
the kernel. I have tried to do the same exercises with the -358 kernel
that ships with Fedora, and everything works in this kernel.
I hope this is of some use (And that a fix can be made :)
Regards
/kbn

non-DRI builds. Also, RADEONInit3DEngineForRender() already correctly
handles both the DRI and non-DRI cases both at compile and runtime, and
checks if CPStarted is set internally. (xorg #1033)
