Yeah, that command line assumed a mach group already exists. I've tried
it with a separate /usr/sbin/groupadd -r mach before it, and without the
-g, and I have the same problem.
Just now, I did userdel mach, groupdel mach, catted /etc/passwd and
/etc/group to make sure the entries were gone, and did a reinstall.
Heres the output from the rpm install (IMMEDIATELY after checking the
/etc/passwd and verifying that no mach user exists):
[root@mises root]# rpm -Uvh
/home/erik/rpm/RPMS/i386/mach-0.4.6.1-0.fdr.0.20040818.123455.i386.rpm
Preparing... ###########################################
[100%]
useradd: user mach exists
1:mach ###########################################
[100%]
warning: user mach does not exist - using root
...
There is some sort of a lag in the pam library or something where it
handles /etc/passwd lookups.

Probably a good recommendation, and should possibly be added to the
fedora checklist. After testing out a lot of packages (easily installed
via yum or whatever) the poor user may have an awful lot of empty
users/groups clogging up his system though. I don't think it's a cut and
dried problem.
It at least provides a workaround for my immediate problem in that I can
just reinstall the package until it stops whining about missing
users/groups.

gtkhtml 3.3
by Thomas J. Baker
Does gtkhtml-3.3 have all the fixes that 3.1.x has? I bug I reported
(http://bugzilla.ximian.com/show_bug.cgi?id=59893) has supposedly been
fixed but it doesn't appear to be on an updated FC3T1+rawhide20040817
system.
Thanks,
tjb

latest kudzu changes
by Steve G
Hi,
I just updated to kudzu-1.1.79-1 and I see something ominous. Kudzu now depends
on hal, which depends on dbus, which depends on gtk and all that X stuff. You now
cannot have a console only system.
What drove the decision to make kudzu dependant on having X installed? I would
rather help solve the problem that caused this move than install X on servers.

dbus / Pyrex
by Steve G
Hi,
OK, I got the new dbus and finally have it compiled without installing any X
components. It was easier than yesterday's version. :)
I haven't messed with Pyrex until today and have a simple question. If you have
Pyrex installed, will you eventually need python-devel? I'm trying to decide if I
need a Requires: python-devel added to Pyrex or a BuildRequires: python-devel
added to dbus.

No eog-collection-view?
by Tim Waugh
Is it intentional that you can no longer 'view as image collection' in
nautilus? The eog binary package doesn't ship anything in
/usr/libexec any more.

Promoting python-ldap from fedora.us into Core/Rawhide
by David Malcolm
I've been making heavy use of python-ldap, using Panu Matilainen's
packages at fedora.us, and I'll eventually want to use it as a
dependency of some other packages, so I want to put the package into
RH's build system.
I'm using the latest spec file (2.0.1-0.fdr.1.1); I'm going to change
the release number to 1 and build it into Rawhide.
