cdrdao 1.1.9
by Denis Leroy
Hi,
I've recently submitted to fedora.us (aka Fedora Extras) new packages
for cdrdao 1.1.9 and its Gtk2 front-end: cdrdao-gcdmaster 1.1.9 (along
with the required gtkmm libraries). See
http://bugzilla.fedora.us/show_bug.cgi?id=1780. (see also bug 1820 for
gtkmm). The friendly fedora.us people however are not sure how to
proceed because while cdrdao-gcdmaster is a new package, cdrdao is
already part of Core (albeit an older version). What would be the
correct way to proceed ? Can an Extras package upgrade a Core one ? Or
maybe split the process in two and submit a new version of cdrdao to
Core (how?) and cdrdao-gcdmaster in Extras only ?
Thanks,
Denis Leroy, cdrdao project

new driver problem
by dariusz pracuś
Hello
Because D-link DGE-530T network card isn't on Fedora driver list
I've tried to install this card using D-link linux driver. Make
process crashed because compilations error. I think that this is
my Fedora linux problem (not D-link source) because when I tried
to install another kind of drivers (printers, modems an so one)
I always have make process errors. Something wrong is in C
headers I think. Here is begining of make report for DGE-530T
card:

[zak@mysql.com: A new version of the MySQL FLOSS Exception]
by Joe Orton
Good news on the MySQL front: when a new version of MySQL 4.x is
released with this license exception we should be able to ship it.

Subject: A new version of the MySQL FLOSS Exception
Greetings All,
I am very pleased to announce that the latest version of the FLOSS
exception has made it through rounds of review by the community, the
MySQL lawyers and MySQL team.
The FLOSS Exception is an exception to the terms and conditions of the
GPL licensing for the MySQL clients that allows for greater
compatibility between the GPL and other common Free Software/Open
Source licenses.
The complete text of the latest version is posted at
http://zak.greant.com:8888/licensing/getfile/licensing/FLOSS-
exception.txt?v=1.5
A history of changes may be found at
http://zak.greant.com:8888/licensing/rlog?f=licensing/FLOSS-
exception.txt
(Click the (diff) links on the preceding page to see changes between
version.)
Barring any unforeseen difficulties, this exception should be added to
the next minor releases of the various official MySQL client APIs.
Cheers!

Gnome image viewers
by Louis Garcia
Why are there two image viewers for gnome. Eog and gthumb basically do
the same thing. I personally like gthumb as eog ui can use some work. As
I understand eog is used as a bonobo component for nautilus to display
images in the nautilus window. Why can't we just move the bonobo
component to gthumb and kill eog?

Major number in library package names
by Toshio Kuratomi
I ran rpmlint on the qof library package I just made and had it tell me:
qof-0.5.0:
E: qof incoherent-version-in-name 0.5.0
The package name should contain the major version of the library.
qof-devel-0.5.0:
W: qof-devel no-major-in-name qof-devel
The major number of the library isn't contained in the package name.
What do people think? Is it good practice to include the major number
in the name of the package (qof0-0.5.0 similar to gtkhtml3 and db4) or
is this just rpmlint being overzealous?

Vuleneraibity in wv. Please update to AbiWord-2.0.9
by Martin Sevior
Hi folks,
There is a vulnerability in the wv MicroSoft word importing
libarary. A specially crafted MS Word document could give local
access to a malware program.
wv is used by AbiWord to import Microsoft word documents.
Please update to AbiWord-2.0.9 available from:
http://www.abisource.com/download/
It also has a substantial number of bug fixes compared to 2.0.5
Thanks!

Heh, a reboot didn't fix it since the device was still not responding.
Shutting off the scsi tape, and turning it back on worked after the reboot.

gthumb can add those features to a bonobo component that nautilus can use.
Just wanted to finish the thought. This really should be discussed on
gnome-devel-list.

You know the old saying, "the road to ruin's paved with good intent". IME,
that's a prime source of feature bloat. When I started using GNOME back in
the 1.2 days, I was sold on the idea of a component-based architecture
which I saw as following the Unix philosophy of combining a number of
small, specialist programs to perform an overall task. So we had Balsa as
the MUA and GNOME Pim providing calendar, appointments and address book.
It looks that philosophy has been over-turned as bloatware and plagerism
seem to rule supreme ATM. very, very sad IMO.
