source vs. sourcecode
by Scott Sloan
This was pointed out over on fedora-list
the lastest kernel src package is kernel-sourcecode. Although I can
understand what the package contains, neither apt or yum knew it was an
update to kernel-source. Is the naming switch from source to sourcecode
an Error or a new naming standard?

Re: [PATCH] version and release macros

And again you throw me a WONTFIX. I can understand you don't have time
to write patches for every small bug yourself, but I do not understand
why you reject a good patch for a real bug (macros %{version} and
%{release} (ao) returning wrong values). I don't want to m/take this
issue too personal, but I do take offense from this attitude. It
severely decreases my motivation to contribute to this "community
project" Fedora.
This patch NOT ONLY fixes the backward compatibility macros
%{PACKAGE_VERSION} and %{PACKAGE_RELEASE} BUT ALSO the currently
supported macros %{version} and %{release}. If you provide these macros
for users to configure their build environment they should return the
correct values. This patch makes it so. Hence if it is correct it should
be applied.
Leonard.

Self-Introduction: Daniel McNamara
by Daniel McNamara
As per the requirements:
1. Daniel McNamara
2. Australia, Canberra
3. Sys Admin/Teacher
4. Code Fish / Canberra Institute of TAFE
5. Your goals in the Fedora Project
My mainstream job involves using RHEL and as such I'd like to see
additions made into Fedora that would flow on nicely onto this. I also use
Fedora as my base for my servers for other projects I run and with my role
as a part time teacher in Linux Sys Administration I'd like to make sure
my students have an excellent system to work with.
* Which packages do you want to see published?
Quite a few but at this point I'll be submitting mod_security
* Do you want to do QA?
Would like to but depends if I have the time.
6. Historical qualifications
I'm not a programmer. I have limited skills in working with compiling
programs and so forth but I do have experience in what systems need, what
good default settings are and how good packaging can make a sys admins
task a lot nicer.
* What other projects have you worked on in the past?
None. This my first foray into the development world. I have worked as a
sys admin for several years in an ISP and personal environment.
* What computer languages and other skills do you know?
Worked with PHP, python, perl and shell scripting. Worked with PHP+MySQL
apps and maintain a number of systems with custom scripts for clients. As
mentioned I am not a programmer. My area of work is building and
maintaining multiple servers for many purposes (mail/web/auth for my ISP
work, same for my personal work and training systems for my teaching
work).
* Why should we trust you? <--- too blunt?
Well being Australian I'm obviously descended from convicts right :)
However my work in the anti-phishing field (see http://www.codephish.info)
should show that I don't believe in stuffing people around.

them and lost them. As such there may be some dodgy keys around for my

rpmbuild-nonroot %{version} interpreted incorrectly
by Leonard den Ottolander
Hi,
When using Mike Harris' rpmbuild-nonroot setup (except for the no archs
hack) I have a problem building rpm. See
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=124364 .
rpmbuild -bp rpm.spec fails:
error: File /data/rpmbuild-fc1/rpm-1.8.1/rpm-4.2.1.tar.gz: No such
file or directory
It looks like the last "Version:" (popt's) is being used in the path
expansion for %setup.
$ rpm --showrc | grep sourcedir
RPM_SOURCE_DIR="%{u2p:%{_sourcedir}}"
RPM_SOURCE_DIR="%{_sourcedir}"
-14: _sourcedir %{_topdir}/%{name}-%{version}
-14: _specdir %{_sourcedir}
The latest "Version:" tag in the spec file is the one for popt. It
looks as if this value is substituted for %{version}. How can this be
fixed?
Leonard.

Mod_authz_ldap
by Ivan Gyurdiev
...I assume I'm doing something wrong here.
That has to be the case, because otherwise mod_authz_ldap.so is just a
dead symlink (to mod_authz_ldap.0.0.0) preventing my httpd from
launching and it's been that way since it was merged. What am I doing wrong?

[PATCH] GSSAPI authentication for wget (resend)
by Felipe Alfaro Solana
I forgot to send the patch. Here it is.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello,
I have always missed the GSSAPI authentication feature of the KRB5 FTP
command line tool included in Fedora Core 2 krb5-workstation package, so
I have implemented it for wget. The attached patch adds automatic GSSAPI
authentication in wget 1,9.1.
The only change in behavior is that, before performing an anonymous
plain-text login, the AUTH GSSAPI command is sent to the remote FTP
server. If the remote FTP server supports GSSAPI authentication, via the
ADAT command, GSSAPI authentication is negotiated between the wget
client and the remote FTP server.
Please, feel free to use and review this patch. I have used code from
krb5-workstation to implement the GSSAPI authentication for wget. There
will be probably many bugs. I have tested it against the FTP server
available in Fedora Core 2 krb5-server package, and two remote servers:
HEANET.ie and Rediris.es.
Thank you very much.

straightforward.
NOTE: I've submitted this patch upstream to the wget mantainer in the
hope they will accept it. Don't know if I should open a bugzilla report
with this patch, or else wait until the maintainer merges it upstream.
I appreciate any comments on this.
Thank you very much.
