selinux and latest updates
by Brian Millett
Well, I've managed to avoid the selinux problems until the latest
updates (4/6/04). Now I have to boot with selinux=0 because of the
denials I get:
Apr 6 13:58:09 shaka kernel: audit(1081277889.258:0): avc: denied {
getattr } for pid=1640 exe=/bin/su path=/dev/pts dev= ino=1
scontext=system_u:system_r:kernel_t tcontext=system_u:object_r:devpts_t
tclass=dir
So I went to edit the /etc/sysconfig/selinux file to disable
selinux...wait, I don't have it.
Ok, I have installed
shaka: rpm -qa | grep policy
policy-sources-1.9.2-12
policycoreutils-1.9.2-1
policy-1.9.2-12
checkpolicy-1.8-1
Who provides the /etc/sysconfig/selinux file?
Thanks.

wide-ranging question - FC1 + linux 2.6
by Martin Stone
Anyone had experience putting a 2.6.x kernel RPM on top of FC1? I'd love to see
a definitive list of things that you have to change when doing this. So far,
for me:
Had to point X and gpm at /dev/input/mice - you can symlink /dev/mouse and
/dev/psaux to /dev/input/mice, but according to developers this is a no-no.
Keep getting "nfs warning: mount version older than kernel" whenever I mount a
NFS filesystem. Not sure what I should do about this?
Seem to get "INIT: version 2.85 reloading" on the console every so often. I
have no idea why it is doing this.
Everything else seems to work fine so far. Anyone else had any experience with
this?
Cheers,
Mart

Strange Kudzu Behavior: Update
by Pyroman[FO]
I now have the ethernet cards to the point where if all the ethernet
cards are down an /etc/init.d/network start will start them with the
correct names. I'm not sure how I did it, I think I deleted all the
entries in system-config-network's hardware menu, then edited, then
readded them.
I checked HWADDR in the ifcfg-ethX files and they are correct, as are
the entries in hwconf now. However when I boot, it still boots up eth1
(PCMCIA) as eth0, then tries to boot up eth1 as eth1, which it can't
rename it because the device is busy. I haven't been able to replicate
this outside of a clean boot, every time I boot I have to "ifconfig eth0
down" (standard ifdown doesn't work because HWADDR is set and the wrong
card is currently eth0). Then every time I use ifup, ifdown or
init.d/networking it works fine. I also checked modprobe.conf, I can
remove all kernel modules and do "modprobe eth0" and it loads the right
driver and the right card is eth0. Here is the error from my boot.log

To package maintainers
by Sarah Wang
Hi,
It's only a couple of days left before the translation freeze date (9th
of April). All the community translation contributors have been working
hard towards 100% completion rate. We will need all package maintainers'
support on making sure we are translating the latest POT files and our
completed translation will be packaged in the final build.
I have been keeping an eye on the po files but I can't be sure if pot
files are the lastest. It would be such a shame to miss the cut not
because we are unable to do it but because we are unaware of the changes.
Thanks!

Re: Updated qlogic driver
by Nate Bradley
OK, I was not looking directly at the kernel config FILE. I was looking
at the menuconfig. Sorry.
Qlogic gave me some misguided information regarding a legacy card which
led to my driver confusion.
I see your mail is coming from the redhat domain so it's understandable
how you could suffer from a case of the "know-it-all"s.
Still, the tone of your replies are horrendous. Kill the attitude and

init.d scripts runs at rc5.d, not rc0.d
by Brian Millett
Hi, I have the latest rawhide updates (except for --exclude=Canna*
--exclude=kinput2-canna-wnn6 --exclude=nvi-m17n-canna). I have a script
to start Jetty.
chkconfig jettyctl --list
jettyctl 0:off 1:off 2:on 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off
The problem is that when I start up, the script runs just fine for
runlevel 5. When I shutdown, or reboot, then the script does not run
for the 0, or 6 runlevel.
So, what causes a script to run for level 0 or 6? Just having a
K20jettyctl does not seem to do the trick. I noticed that I have many
scripts in rc0.d that do not run, or at least i can not get them to run
at shutdown. Can someone enlighten me as to what causes a stop to run
on shutdown?
thanks.
Here are the files:
shaka: find . | grep jetty
./init.d/jettyctl
./init.d/jettyctl~
./rc0.d/K20jettyctl
./rc1.d/K20jettyctl
./rc2.d/S80jettyctl
./rc3.d/S80jettyctl
./rc4.d/S80jettyctl
./rc5.d/S80jettyctl
./rc6.d/K20jettyctl
Here is the script for what it is worth:
#!/bin/bash
#
# jetty Starts jetty.

I didn't check out your script, but what happens when you
/etc/rc.d/init.d/jettyctl stop
and
service jettyctl stop
?
Other clues might be found in /etc/inittab. In FC1, I see the following
lines concerning this:
l0:0:wait:/etc/rc.d/rc 0
l1:1:wait:/etc/rc.d/rc 1
l2:2:wait:/etc/rc.d/rc 2
l3:3:wait:/etc/rc.d/rc 3
l4:4:wait:/etc/rc.d/rc 4
l5:5:wait:/etc/rc.d/rc 5
l6:6:wait:/etc/rc.d/rc 6
So then maybe you should check out the script /etc/rc.d/rc.

Gnome-Volume-Manager inclusion
by Matt Jones
Is there any chance fedora core 2/3 could include gnome-volume-manager
(from gnome-cvs - part of RML's desktop utopia project)? It's a very
simple HAL/DBUS-based program, in C, that automounts/configures/modifies
fstab etc for camera's, removable storage & cd/dvd media. it needs a
recent version of dbus (i think fc2 has it), a pretty up to date HAL
(not sure about this - i have a custom rpm installed), and needs udev
(mine's mounted at /udev).
Solves all of the problems people were complaining about with automount
of usb drives. I'm not sure how it works with selinux, so that might be
something to look into.
