This seems to have gone a way from Fedora 20/21 thunderbird.
rpm -q thunderbird thunderbird-24.0-3.fc21.x86_64
Is this intended? Is this a bug? Is there a setting where I can turn this back on?
Wasting this screen real estate on a small screen is painful.

That went away ages ago IIRC. You can get it back with the CompactHeader plugin:

That is what I wanted although it does not seem to be working in F21 package...
