Well, did you discuss such changes with the maintainer before you started working on it (as I would expect from a co-maintainer) ? Or did you just commit them in the hope that he would agree ?

Yes, we discussed it(*). KDE SIG meetings have also included the topic for many weeks (most of which than hasn't been present, unfortunately).

And you went ahead and did it anyway? "I'll do it anyway" flippancy especially from long time contributors is not going to encourage ex-Core package maintainers to want to add others to the ACL/co-maintainers lists for the packages they own. Than should retain a certain level of respect and I support his decision in this case.

The way Than has not participated makes him more a co-maintainer than maintainer. in all honesty he is lucky to have any access to the kde packages at all right now. We had to drag him kicking and screaming to work with the community. Right now i'm willing to have him removed from all Fedora KDE access.

Yeah, this kind of talk is sure to close doors for community participation in maintenance of core packages. Last I looked, hostile takeovers of packages were not part of the accepted norms in Fedora.
Look folks, chill. This thread is going nowhere (good) fast.
I apologize profusely for even raising the issue here at all.
I'll work out any differences I have with than privately.

p.s. don't get me wrong, I will continue to fight tooth-n-nail for this vital feature to be included in F7, but not at the cost of fracturing community or relationships.

Indeed i should not have been so harsh and i appologise to all. There really needs to be no us and them we are all the same team.

Hello Dennis,
Than Ngo has maintained the KDE packages for many years and they show a real good stability for all our releases. Than Ngo is a very well respected person to work on the packages.
The decision was to keep the core packages with Than Ngo and open up more development via adding more KDE packages to Fedora. Then the next bigger step is to work on KDE4 where a bigger development step happens.
Than Ngo is very active and he is very fast to respond to integrating patches etc. Also he knows devel cycles very well where we are right now frozen for F7 and look at F7-updates.
Than Ngo is the maintainer for the core kde packages.
regards,
Florian La Roche

i have disabled it because it caused the package conflict. We still don't have the FC7 CVS branch ATM and we are still using devel CVS branch to commit only bugfixes (not experimental or features) there, therefore you should be carefull and does not commit the experimental or features changes in devel branch CVS.
Could you please discuss such changes with me before you started working on it and commit the change in CVS. Thanks
Than
