As Michael has already hinted at, I'm working on making cobbler content
available via rsync and improving replicate to use that. That is
available here:
http://github.com/shenson/cobbler/tree/rsync
Anyway, a couple of issues. Creating a profile as the following:
# cobbler profile add profile-foo --parent profile-bar
You get null in the distro, which when rendered out of the api ends up
as a '~'. Also, you can't set the profile to <<inherit>> with
the edit
function.
Also, along the same lines, the cli no longer shows the parent profile
if it exists. This can be something that people might want to know.
Especially when it shows inherit instead of chasing things down. I'm
not sure.
Dehaan also said something about how does one define the distro to put
into an rsync module. I'm thinking about looking at the kernel. For
Red Hat distros the kernel will always been in
$distro/images/pxeboot/vmlinuz. But then that means that the kernel
location can change across replicates. For instance, if you import a
distro with multiple arches, you get
/var/www/cobbler/ks_mirror/RHEL-5-Server-U3/x86_64/os/. If we expose
that via rsync, you would get
/var/www/cobbler/ks_mirror/RHEL-5-Server-U3-x86_64 as the repo on the
replicate side. This means that the kernel location would have to be
refigured on the replicate side. We could also look at
/var/www/cobbler/links. I'm not sure how to figure out where the
distributions are.
It seems the smart thing to do would be to look at the kernel on both
sides. Expose rsync modules according to what we find on the kernel
location. Then on the replicate side, look at the kernel and try to
guess where to throw the distribution. Anybody think this is insanity
or have a better idea?

Checking to see if the kernel is in ks_mirror (anywhere in the path) and
then using everything right after ks_mirror is perfect.
i.e. if kernel is
.../ks_mirror/dname/something/something
you know to export
../ks_mirror/dname
I'll take a look into the other items.
NOTE: I'll be rather busy preparing for Red Hat Summit this week, so
if anyone else wants to help out, *much* appreciated.
Some patches (depending on time) may get merged next week versus this week.
