If the cli is really fast for large (> 1000 system records) cobbler instances, network objects would be cool, but not as necessary. Doing some edits on a central server and waiting to replicate a few systems among 1000ish is a test of patience sometimes.

I've added some code to the CLI that will auto-tail background tasks until they are finished or fail, which makes the command line feel completely local.
Example:
[mdehaan@mdehaan _cobbler]$ sudo cobbler buildiso task started (id=Build Iso, time=Mon Jul 27 12:42:55 2009) using/creating tempdir: /buildiso building tree for isolinux copying miscellaneous files copying kernels and initrds for profiles generating a isolinux.cfg generating profile list done writing config running: mkisofs -o /var/www/cobbler/pub/generated.iso -r -b isolinux/isolinux.bin -c isolinux/boot.cat -no-emul-boot -boot-load- size 4 -boot-info-table -V Cobbler\ Install -R -J -T /buildiso I: -input-charset not specified, using utf-8 (detected in locale settings) Size of boot image is 4 sectors -> No emulation Total translation table size: 4029 Total rockridge attributes bytes: 1320 Total directory bytes: 4700 Path table size(bytes): 40 Max brk space used 1a000 226 extents written (0 MB) returned: 0 ISO build complete You may wish to delete: /buildiso The output file is: /var/www/cobbler/pub/generated.iso *** TASK COMPLETE ***
When we remote the command line, the above tailing hack won't work anymore, so in that case, we will either have to implement a remote tail over XMLRPC (ugly) or just not tail the log files for remote executions (say when --xmlrpc=http://endpoint is used, versus assuming 127.0.0.1/cobbler_api).
Given though, the purpose of remoting the command line is /NOT/ to make it a replacement for SSH -- SSH is better for this -- it is to enable long-running tasks in the background, and also to ensure that there is only one copy of state for the cobbler API, and *more importantly still* to let the command line tool run at maximum speed for very large configurations even beyond what the simplejson upgrades of past releases have provided.
