HP iLO Virtual Media control
by Gunnar Thielebein
Hi,
I am just new to cobbler and I am looking for a way to use the HP ILO VM for
specifying and bootloading an iso image for installation. I have seen that
cobbler ships a module ilo which is by now used for ilo/ipmi power management of
clients. Is it possible to put functionality for "iLO Virtual Media" control on
top on that module or is it perhaps (as a sideeffect) already builtin?
Cheers,
Gunnar

pxegen not generating pxelinux.cfg/default correctly in cobbler 1.0.8-1.el5
by Michael Rice
cobbler was building my pxelinux.cfg/default with $kernel_path still
in it (the string was not getting replaced, as if kernel_path were not
set).
This is cobbler 1.0.8-1.el5 from epel-testing.
I did a "quick fix" on pxegen.py, just to add kernel_path and
initrd_path to metadata right before initrd_path is tested. patch
inline, below.

[PATCH] minor esxi fixes and new trigger modules for fetchable files
by James Cammarata
Pushed to my github: https://github.com/jimi1283/cobbler.git
One thing I noticed when merging pxegen.py is that a large section of
code was removed dealing with the append line. Here's the chunk that
conflicted when I tried merging with HEAD:
<<<<<<< HEAD:cobbler/pxegen.py
if arch.startswith("ppc") or arch.startswith("s390"):
# remove the prefix "append"
append_line = append_line[7:]
if distro.os_version.startswith("esxi"):
# For ESXI, we include the path to the image directory
# with all the extra files needed during PXE booting
metadata["img_path"] = os.path.join("/images",distro.name)
# store variables for templating
metadata["menu_label"] = ""
if profile:
if not arch in [ "ia64", "ppc", "ppc64", "s390", "s390x" ]:
metadata["menu_label"] = "MENU LABEL %s" % profile.name
metadata["profile_name"] = profile.name
elif image:
metadata["menu_label"] = "MENU LABEL %s" % image.name
metadata["profile_name"] = image.name
if system:
metadata["system_name"] = system.name
metadata["append_line"] = append_line
# get the template
if kernel_path is not None:
template_fh = open(template)
template_data = template_fh.read()
template_fh.close()
else:
# this is something we can't PXE boot
template_data = "\n"
# save file and/or return results, depending on how called.
buffer = self.templar.render(template_data, metadata, None)
if filename is not None:
self.logger.info("generating: %s" % filename)
fd = open(filename, "w")
fd.write(buffer)
fd.close()
return buffer

return append_line

Odd that all that was replaced with a single line, and it nuked at
least part of my original patch for ESXi. Anyone know what's going on
with this chunk? Right now, I would not expect ESXi to work, since
the img_path variable is not being replaced in the append_line string.
If this code was moved elsewhere, I'll have to readd the portion for
ESXi.
Anyway, here are the commits to my github account:

[PATCH] Install templates for EFI grub booting
by Todd Zullinger
---
Without these templates, running cobbler profile edit failed. I
didn't test much else, this was the first thing I ran into upon
updating a CentOS 5 system to cobbler-2.0.8.

Cobbler 2.0.8
by Scott Henson
I've formally released Cobbler 2.0.8 today. This release contains many
many bug fixes and I'll be pushing it into updates-testing in a few
minutes.
There are a couple of known issues with this release. It will dump the
link cache (a new feature to speed up syncs) in /var/lib instead of
/var/lib/tftpboot as it should. It also failed to include
/etc/cobbler/pxe/efidefault.template in the rpm for some reason. This
is to support the new EFI Boot support. To fix this, simply touch the
file and everything should work. If you want EFI Boot support, copy the
file from the src rpm.
Please check out the change log for a full list of updates from whatever
release you happened to be running.
Also, sorry for the delay in getting this out, from here on out releases
should come out much quicker. Thanks for everyone sticking around.

ESXi support updates
by James Cammarata
Hey all, been having some email issues regarding outgoing mail, so I
wasn't able to respond to the recent thread on ESXi support. I
believe someone else mentioned it, but I don't believe my patches made
it into the dev tree yet, so you'll have to pull the source from the
main git repo and then merge in my stuff from my github.
We've been working on this internally the last couple of days, and
I've worked out a couple of bugs, for which I'll be sending more
patches soon - namely that the PXE template for both the system and
profile have an extra --- at the end, which causes the PXE to fail.
One other thing we noticed was that on a buildiso, the extra files are
not copied so it fails there as well.
I've also written two new trigger modules - one that copies all files
listed in --fetchable-files to the /tftpboot/images/<distro name>/
folder when the distro is edited, and another that does the same thing
for all distros when a sync is performed. One thing I noticed when
writing these was that no triggers are executed on a lite-sync, which
seems like a bug to me and might be worth an RFE.
I'm still in the process of migrating my email to a new service, but
if anyone is trying my patches out and are running into issues I
should be able to respond now.
