Django and UserPrefs
by Michael DeHaan
I've trimmed out the userprefs code but left the basics in views.py
I am not sure that's the proper point for putting the load/save from
cookie logic, but everything still flows down the same search path and
should be ok.
I tried webui search with one field and it still worked, though I'm not
sure that goes down the filter path.

[PATCH] webui search fixes
by Vreman, Peter
Please find attached a patch 0003 that removes the paginate and special <what>_list() methods. These are handled by the generic list method.
The other patches 0008 and 0009 makes the search work again including paginate, items_per_page and sorting.

session/cookie vs persistent database
by Vreman, Peter
Using the session variable is good for some things like current applied filter and page. But there needs to be a persistent database that stores data based on a userid/username.
What I mean is for example a webshop: The current order basket is per session, but your placed orders and address details are stored in a database.
Below is a summary of preferences that I see as persistent and per session:
Persistent:
- [Per list page]
- Table columns
o Column Field
o Column width
- Table sort_field
- Table items_per_page
- Table filters
o Filter name
o Filter criteria
Session:
- [Per list page]
o Current filter criteria
o Current page
Btw. Next week I have holidays without mail access.

Peter

generic item.printable and to_datastruct
by Vreman, Peter
Please find patches to add a generic item.printable() and item.to_datastruct() method using information returned by a method item.get_field_info().
The patch will only add the method in the parent item class. All child classes (e.g. system/distro) still have their old implementation. For the system item class I have added an initial get_field_info() tree. To (e.g. performance) test the new code also for the systems you can rename/remove the item_system.to_datastruct and item_system.printable.
For new item_userpref uses the generic implementation by default

Peter

Adding --template-files text field to webui profile edit page (Trac Ticket #298)
by Bryan Schneiders
I've attempted to make a patch that adds a text field to the profile edit page in the webui for editing the --template-files list.
It successfully shows you the current --template-files list associated with a profile, but it doesn't appear to save changes or additions and I'm not sure why.
Patch against 1.6.x branch is attached.
