I suppose we could also do that by comparing the timestamps (and
keeping a map of release -> timestamp).. but I'm pretty sure there
are other tools that look at the release number to make various
decisions about how to deal with the system.
Hrm... s'pose that's a valid use. So long as there is a valid reason
for munging the release number each time I'm ok with doing it. I just
hate doing things for the sake of doing things because that's just been
done since before I got here and we can't change anything (:
