Joachim,
I had another thought about your problem.
If I understand it correctly the 'group names' are on the CD's and the
DVD's, installed by default, but the packages are not on the disk(s).
When you try to install "Cinnamon Desktop" do you have an Internet
connection with the proper repos configured?
I use Xfce and that is the way it works for me.
