It can't fork -- some later init scripts may require precise
synchronization (e.g. kerberos-related services). If you want to run
time sync, you'll have to wait for it to finish.
Anything requiring precise sync shouldn't be relying on ntpdate to
succeed, should it?
Or perhaps any services that fall under this category might be able to
wait for ntpdate to finish before starting? That way most other things
can continue to start, even if one or two initscripts will wait.
