I think I have done all this as you outlined and this appears to be
Thunderbird 38.0.
Unfortunately it still does not display the text in the
757obscured(a)vzwpix.com text message.
You mentioned another computer running Fedora-21, right?
So copy the "~/.thunderbird" from it, and run Tbird with it.
Check with both, v38 beta2 and 31.6.0-1.
