Have you tried resetting your keyboard layout as well? Maybe its just
gotten the map confused and a reset would make the specials work again.
I set the spanish keyboard with system-config-keyboard, the <- -> etc keys
don't work, no ctrl-alt-Fx, del doesn't work either.
