while i really didn't want to add anything further to this
thread,
just a few more brief observations:
1) if, as some people have justifiably claimed, the label of
"Everything" might be ambiguous (does that mean everything on
accompanying CDs as well?), then just change the label to "All of the
above." problem solved, OK?
I've stayed out of this discussion for the past few days since I think
Rahul already has his mind made up and we're not going to get our
"Everything" install button back.
But if there is a problem with with ambiguous interpretations of the
button why not relabel it
"All packages on the CORE CD's"
^^^^ note core only no extras or third
party repos.
2) there is no "cost" or "danger" associated with
such a button.
given that you would (theoretically) get *exactly* the same effect by
just selecting all of the visible boxes that are already there, you
simply can't make that argument, so please stop. you're just
embarrassing yourself.
Not quite true, there are lots of packages on the CD's/iso's which are not
in any of the package groups which are selectable. But I agree there is
no "cost" associated with the button especially if it was clearly labeled
and a warning issued on it's use.
3) on the other hand, there is most *assuredly* a cost with removing
that button, and that is that it annoys some users by forcing them to
do more work than they would have to otherwise. and, yes, that's a
cost. deal with it.
Very true. I've just done an install and spent 10 minutes clicking mouse
buttons to select everything in the package groups. Even after that there
were 894 rpm's from the iso's not installed.
4) finally, if this is already a done deal and the button has been
removed and it's non-negotiable, please make that clear so all of us
can stop wasting our time and just move on. it would be just plain
cruel to have let this thread go on this long if it was all utterly
pointless from the beginning.
As I said I think Rahul has his mind already made up.
