I've updated the bug. Basically the work around I think will work for
your workstations is to modify /etc/samba/smb.conf, to include a line
under the [global] section:
client max protocol = SMB3 (you could also use SMB2)
And then you need to connect using Other location > Connect to Server
(at the bottom) by typing in the URI: e.g.
smb://192.168.1.131/scratch, and then click Connect. It will not work
if you double click on the Windows Network icon. Anyway I can confirm
with this change that it makes a connection using the SMB3_11 protocol
version, which is faster than either the default NT1 protocol that
GNOME depends on out of the box, or SMB2.
