I saw a profile of the xscreensaver running xmatrix last week, and
the majority of the time the CPU was spent in the kernel poisoning
memory. I'll get another build out with this stuff turned off soon,
as basically any memory-intensive application is hurting real bad right now.
That would explain why my FC-devel box takes 40 seconds to fire up an
xterm and 30 seconds to respond to a key-press under xscreensaver when
the load average is listed as low and the box isnt anywhere near swap.
(It is an older Dell but FC4 had been nice on it.)
