Which could be condensed into something similar to this:
yum --exclude=nautilus* --exclude=gimp* --exclude=gnome-games
--exclude=cyrus-imapd*--exclude=perl-Cyrus --exclude=libcroco*
--exclude=librsvg2* update
Don't do more work than you have to.

Or you could use up2date. If you use the GUI and do not pick the
programs listed above.
At least yum and up2date seem to be reacting to dep problems in sync w/
each other.
