Are you sure it's an actual freeze? Some i915 laptops have had problems
with the display going dark after lid close - see

which is the upstream bug.
The system is still active, the screen has just gone back. And note that
actual suspend/resume works totally fine (and the display comes back
normally) for my system that has this problem. Switching the system to
suspend on all lid closes (even on battery) makes life much more
bearable.
The freezes I've seen have happened after boot and without me closing
the lid at all so I think this is something separate.
The "hang" after suspend/resume looks like it could be something like
this though. Hitting caps lock turns on the led at least. I still can't
even shut down using the power button or ctrl+alt+delete.
I'll look at the reports above and comment if it seems relatede.
