Yum distro-sync makes more problems than solves
by Adam Pribyl
I can not help myself but the procedure described at
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/YumUpgradeFaq with distro-sync is not
flawless. While the "old way" with upgrading first the fedora-release*
packages and then invoking "yum update" was most of the times straight
forward and I used it many times, I did cca 5 updates with distro-sync and
none of them was flawless or straight forward.
Last example:
F12 -> F13
there was 126MB of not updated packages in 82 packages.
Let's go per instructions
1. yum clean all - no problems
2. rpm --import https://fedoraproject.org/static/97A1071F.txt
- no problems
3. yum update yum - fetches all repo data again, upgrades yum to latest
fc12.
4. yum --releasever=13 distro-sync --skip-broken - updates 81 packages
from F12 that left for update and finishes.
5. yum repolist - shows all repos are still set to fc12.
6. now improvisation starts:
yum --releasever=13 distro-sync --skip-broken - yum can not end
dependency resolution, it was still cycling thru dependencies
suggesting many packages to erase or downgrade, it does not react to ^C,
nor kill -15, have to use kill -9 to end it.
7. yum clean all - no problems
8. yum --releasever=13 distro-sync --skip-broken - finaly does resolves
373MB in 752 packages to update for fc13. However it ends up with message
"The GPG keys listed for "Fedora 13 - i386 - Updates" repository already
installed, but they are not correct for this package.
Check that the correct URLs are configure for this repository."
What the heck is this about?
Last time, somebody was interested in checking what's wrong. Here I am.
System is not updated and I am waiting and willing to help with
YumUpgradeFaq page update to make the steps really working.

Configuring Printers in F15Alpha TC1
by Clyde E. Kunkel
Where is the menu item to configure printers in F15A TC1? The
installation defaulted to gnome panels.
I can, from a gnome terminal, use system-config-printer, but think there
should be a menu item somewhere.
TIA

Proventester request - xulrunner, firefox, gjs bugfix update
by James Laska
Greetings testers,
Just passing along a test request from Chris Aillon regarding a brand
new xulrunner+firefox F15 updates-testing request.
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/xulrunner-2.0-0.21.b11.fc15,firef...
The F15 Branched repodata is still being created and synced to mirrors.
Once completed, you can download and test the proposed packages from a
F15 system by typing:
# yum --enablerepo=updates-testing update firefox xulrunner
Note, if you installed TC1, or rawhide, you'll need to have the Fedora
15 fedora-release package installed
(http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=227969).
If the requested update is not available on a mirror near you, the
latest packages can be downloaded and installed directly from koji using
the following commands:
# for UPDATE in firefox xulrunner ; do koji download-build
--arch $(uname -i) --arch noarch --latestfrom
dist-f15-updates-candidate $UPDATE ; done
# yum update *.rpm
The main focus for this update is to address updated %requires, similar
to those noted in the gjs changelog [1]. Several basic test case
suggestions are available on the wiki at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Category:Package_firefox_test_cases.
Happy testing!
James

Draft test day management SOP revision
by Adam Williamson
Hi, all. I've put up a draft revision to the test day management SOP to
incorporate Johann's suggestion about recommending How To Debug pages:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Adamwill/Draft_QA_SOP_test_day_manage...
it simply adds a section called "Consider a 'how to debug' page".
I was going to also add something on Johann's other suggestion, about
trying to avoid having users report to upstream bugzillas, but the
thing
is right now we don't mention this at all; if we added something like
'you can have testers report to upstream Bugzilla, but consider that
they are less likely to have an account set up', it would ironically
come off as promoting this *more* than it currently does. Even saying
'we recommend you don't' would kinda be promoting it, as right now the
page doesn't even mention the possibility. So I'm not sure we want to
go with that.
Reviews welcome!

fc15 TC1 isos
by Rob Healey
Greetings:
In reading the post from this list today, I understand that there is a
problem with installing this iso with anaconda!
Will there be a TC2 with the listed work around? Will it also have packages
from the mass-rebuild so that there are no fc14, fc13, and fc12 packages???
Sincerely yours,
Rob G. Healey

[Test-Announce] 2011-02-11 @ 17:00 UTC - F15 Alpha Blocker bug review meeting
by James Laska
# F15-Alpha Blocker Review meeting
# Date: 2011-02-11
# Time: 17:00 UTC (12:00 EDT, 09:00 PDT) [1]
# Location: #fedora-bugzappers on irc.freenode.net
Here are the current bugs listed as blocking the Alpha release of Fedora
15. We'll be discussing all of these to determine if they meet the
Alpha release criteria [2], should stay on the list, and are getting the
attention they need.
== Suggested Meeting Preparation ==
If you are the OWNER of one of these bugs, PLEASE add a comment to the
bug letting us know how things are going and what you are planning to do
next.
If your bug is in MODIFIED, please make sure a build has been submitted.
If that's already happened, please change the bug to ON_QA so we can
start test verification. Note, that once the release is branched [3],
bodhi updates will also be required.
If you REPORTED a bug, please be responsive to any requests for
additional information.
