New BugZapper Introduction
by Jan Scotka
Hi folks,
I'm RedHat and I need to be in fedora bugzapper group, because I must
triage some bugs in component:
tomcat5 openldap logrotate dovecot avahi module-init-tools tog-pegasus
for next RHEL6.
So, please append me into groups fedora bugzappers to have proper
permissions to triage bugs.
Thanks a lot

Fedora 12 Alpha on VirtualBox 3.0.4 won't boot 'Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)'
by Niels Haase
Hello,
I try to install the Fedora 12 Alpha x86_64 install DVD into
VirtualBox 3.0.4. After the Installation of the software, the next
screen is the "reboot" now. I'm just wondering, since there was no
question about grub configuration. Anyway, after reboot, the system
doesn't come up because of this:
VFS: Cannot open root device "mapper/vg_fedora12vb-lv_root" or
unknown-block(0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option; here are the available partitions:
0800 62914560 sda driver: sd
0801 204800 sda1
0802 62705708 sda2
0b00 1048575 sr0 driver: sr
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)
I have no idea was is going on here, since this is a install on a
fresh disk (use entire disk). The only notable thing maybe that I have
enabled both repos, Install and Rawhide during the install. I filled a
bug [1]. Did anyone else see this? Or did something may know which
additional information should be add to the bug report? Thanks for
your help!

No waiting to press ENTER on f12 alpha install
by Robert P. J. Day
i just burned a copy of f12a, popped it into a gateway mx7120
laptop, saw the isolinux line, then a line that read something like:
"press ENTER to continue the installation"
but in less than a second, that line disappeared and the install
process carried on. why no wait until i press ENTER? or perhaps at
least a longer timeout?

2009-08-27 - Fedora test day - Dracut
by James Laska
Fedora Test Day - Dracut
Date: 2009-08-27
Time: All day
Location: #fedora-test-day on irc.freenode.net
Greetings folks,
This week's Fedora Test Day will focus on exercising the Fedora 12
mkinitrd/nash replacement ... <drumroll> ... Dracut [1]. If you find
yourself wondering, "what the heck is that?" The following snippet from
the fedoraproject wiki [2] best describes the change.
With Dracut, the initramfs has one purpose in life - getting the
rootfs mounted so that we can transition to the real rootfs.
This is all driven by device availability. Therefore, instead
of scripts hard-coded to do various things, we depend on udev to
create device nodes for us and then when we have the rootfs's
device node, we mount and carry on.
It is worth noting that dracut will impact *every* Fedora 12 user (and
potentially users of other distros). As a result, there are several
ways to get involved with testing, ranging from basic to more advanced:
1. Download the live image and boot on your system(s)
2. Update your existing Fedora 11 (or Fedora 12 Alpha) system(s) to
use dracut, and reboot
3. Install Fedora 12/Rawhide targetting specific root partitiong
schemes (iSCSI, dmraid, RAID+lvm+luks, etc...)
I invite you to join #fedora-test-day this Thursday, August 27 2009 to
help test dracut. At the very least, providing feedback on the live
image will be much appreciated. Additional test feedback per the wiki
guidlines is also encouraged.
Stay tuned for more details at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2009-08-27_Dracut.
Thanks,
James

xemacs-21.5.29-2.fc11 (FEDORA-2009-8993)
Different version of Emacs

Update Information:
This update fixes multiple buffer overflows when reading large image files, or

warnings on startup. Some warnings remain, however, unless an ISO8859-13 fonts
(e.g., terminus) is installed. Also note that some warnings remain on Rawhide
pending a resolution for bz 507637.

Tuesday Alpha and Rawhide: Advantage Ubuntu
by Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX
Today's 64 bit alpha images are too big to fit on a CD
with Nero, yet are coded such that Nero refuses to
burn them onto a DVD.
The 64 bit pxeboot Rawhide locks up at various early
points.
It is possible that something modified BIOS settings,
so I reset the bios to fail-safe defaults. Still no luck
with pxeboot rawhide.
Fedora 11 (i386 and x86_64) and XP work normally.

The initial graphical screen is the one that just says "Fedora" and has
a "Next" button. You can get to a shell prompt from there.
The only other thing before that is the text-based screen that asks if
you want to do a media check. You can switch away during language and
keyboard ("locale") selection, too.
Anyway, I've never tried to configure the network from the command line
in the installer, so I can't say you'll actually be able to do that
(without getting overridden later). But the shell is on tty2. The GUI
is on tty6 to get back.

Unfortunately that's where the undo link I mentioned didn't work for me.
At least it worked for someone.
So who runs smolts.org? Wikipedia has technical measures in place to
combat vandalism. It might be worth suggesting them to smolts, as well,
but the most suggestive contact info is a link on the main page that
points to an empty Fedoraproject:About page.
