The new Sound applet
by Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX
At first impression, I like the new preferences>sound
control. Unfortunately it still can't select the CD audio
input on an ALC889A codec. This is on a Gigabyte ga-ep45-ud3p
motherboard and Core Duo 8500.

I can't recall the last time I had an audio connection betweeen
a CD/DVD drive and the "CD audio" connector. I do use the
"CD audio" input as a separate audio input. Perhaps some
will recall the "Input Selector" on audio equipment. In the
case of my main office machine, the line input connects to a
VLF antenna and the "CD audio" input connects to a communications
receiver.
The "New Mixer" thread mentioned an alternative mixer that
does not have this brain damage. Which mixer is that??

device notifier - setting options
by Claude Jones
When I plug in my photo camera via USB to my Fedora 11 box, device notifier
only offers the option to open the device with Digikam - I would prefer not to
use Digikam, or at least not all the time - is there a way to reset that
option? I've looked for a configuration file and can't find it. It used to be
that the camera would appear as a mountable device and clicking on it would
make it appear as a mounted device in the /media folder; opening the camera
drive with Digikam mounts it elsewhere, and I can't find that either...

I want to run Compiz, Flightgear , and other neat stuff on a mainstream
video card (Nvidia 9600GT). Apparently something in Rawhide has broken
the Nvidia provided driver. Is the answer "See Figure.1" or a pointer to
a driver that works with Rawhide and does support Compiz et al. on
mainstream
video cards?

Re: updates repo admission checklist hole
by Maria Magdalena
Hi Michel,
In my opinion you are wrong because:
Fact: update repo has broken packages.
Fact: broken packages keeps sleeping into update repo.
Fact: QA must consider everything broken until proven contrary.
Fact: You failed to lead situation toward an improvement in Fedora (as mission statement says), because
you failed to professionally analyze user comment and make required adjustment.
Someone more open will spot the workaround in a second:
"Change the system to give negative karma from start ( or consider zero karma as not acceptable for updates-repo) when a package arrives into updates-testing, thus we will ensure that some human at least tried to install and test the package before it gets with positive karma in updates-repo this will not annoy users" .
Overall it is bad for fedora public image to have broken upupdate packages.
I personally think that you do not reflect the spirit of fedora where people are friendly and open and strive for bleeding-edge improvements.
Thanks.
MM.

Subject: updates repo admission checklist hole
Hi ,
I think there is a hole in QA process that allows untested packages to get into the update repo.
I may be wrong as well but at least please look into this:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=508517
as this is a case where a broken package pollute the updates repository.
I am referring about current state of synce-hal package as reported by yum :
$yum list synce-hal
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit
Available Packages
synce-hal.x86_64 0.13.1-3.fc10 updates
PS: I find here a policy described: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/PackageSubmissionQAPolicy
but there is no detailed QA Check list , can someone help me with some pointers to follow for more details?
Thanks, Andrei.
