fedora 11 updates
by Rob Healey
Greetings: Rahul, Michael, and Kevin:
Thank you for all three of your responses are there was nothing left to not
understand! Very good converage on the subject.
For me, it was a mirroring time delay because I went to
download.fedora.redhat.com directly and were able to get them quickly....
Sincerely yours,
Rob G. Healey

One (more) week slip of Fedora 11 Release
by Jesse Keating
A late discovered and just potentially fixed anaconda storage bug[1] has
necessitated another week slip of our schedule. The change is important
but invasive enough to require re-validating our storage tests. We were
already late in producing the Release Candidate and there is not enough
time to produce another one and validate it in time for next Tuesday's
release date. Therefor we have decided to enact another week long slip
of the release. This gives us time to create a second release candidate
and fully validate it and hand it off to the mirrors in plenty of time
to sync up for the new release date of June 9th. As much as we regret
slipping, we also wish to avoid easily trigger-able bugs in our release,
particularly in software that cannot be fixed with a 0-day update.
At this time we would only accept tag requests for critical issues.

freeradius-2.1.6-2.fc10 (FEDORA-2009-5815)
High-performance and highly configurable free RADIUS server
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
/etc/raddb/sites-available changed to be config(noreplace) to preserve site
configuration for these files during an upgrade - update to latest upstream
release, from upstream Changelog: Feature improvements * radclient
exits with 0 on successful (accept / ack), and 1 otherwise (no response
/ reject) * Added support for %%{sql:UPDATE ..}, and insert/delete
Patch from Arran Cudbard-Bell * Added sample "do not respond" policy.
See raddb/policy.conf and raddb/sites-available/do_not_respond *
Cleanups to Suse spec file from Norbert Wegener * New VSAs for Juniper
from Bjorn Mork * Include more RFC dictionaries in the default install
* More documentation for the WiMAX module * Added "chase_referrals" and
"rebind" configuration to rlm_ldap. This helps with Active Directory.
See raddb/modules/ldap * Don't load pre/post-proxy if proxying is
disabled. * Added %%{md5:...}, which returns MD5 hash in hex. *
Added configurable "retry_interval" and "poll_interval" for "detail"
listeners. * Added "delete_mppe_keys" configuration option to rlm_wimax.
Apparently some WiMAX clients misbehave when they see those keys. * Added
experimental rlm_ruby from http://github.com/Antti/freeradius-
server/tree/master * Add Tunnel attributes to ldap.attrmap *
Enable virtual servers to be reloaded on HUP. For now, only the
"authorize", "authenticate", etc. processing sections are reloaded.
Clients and "listen" sections are NOT reloaded. * Updated "radwatch"
script to be more robust. See scripts/radwatch * Added certificate
compatibility notes in raddb/certs/README, for compatibility with
different operating systems. (i.e. Windows) * Permit multiple "-e" in
radmin. * Add support for originating CoA-Request and Disconnect-Request.
See raddb/sites-available/originate-coa. * Added "lifetime" and
"max_queries" to raddb/sql.conf. This helps address the problem of hung
SQL sockets. * Allow packets to be injected via radmin. See "inject
help" in radmin. * Answer VMPS reconfirmation request. Patch
from Hermann Lauer. * Sample logrotate script in
scripts/logrotate.freeradius * Add configurable poll interval for
"detail" listeners * New "raddebug" command. This prints debugging
information from a running server. See "man raddebug. * Add
"require_message_authenticator" configuration to home_server
configuration. This makes the server add Message-Authenticator to all
outgoing Access-Request packets. * Added smsotp module, as contributed by
Siemens. * Enabled the administration socket in the default install.
See raddb/sites-available/control-socket, and "man radmin" * Handle
duplicate clients, such as with replicated or load-balanced SQL servers
and "readclients = yes" Bug fixes * Minor changes to allow
building without VQP. * Minor fixes from John Center * Fixed
raddebug example * Don't crash when deleting attributes via unlang
* Be friendlier to very fast clients * Updated the "detail" listener so
that it only polls once, and not many times in a row, leaking memory
each time... * Update comparison for Packet-Src-IP-Address (etc.) so that
the operators other than '==' work. * Did autoconf magic to work around
weird libtool bug * Make rlm_perl keep tags for tagged attributes in more
situations * Update UID checking for radmin * Added
"include_length" field for TTLS. It's needed for RFC compliance, but
not (apparently) for interoperability. * Clean up control sockets when
they are closed, so that we don't leak memory. * Define SUN_LEN
for systems that don't have it. * Correct some boundary conditions in the
conditional checker ("if") in "unlang". Bug noted by Arran Cudbard-
Bell. * Work around minor building issues in gmake. This should only
have affected developers. * Change how we manage unprivileged user/group,
so that we do not create control sockets owned by root. * Fixed
more minor issues found by Coverity. * Allow raddb/certs/bootstrap to run
when there is no "make" command installed. * In radiusd.conf,
run_dir depends on the name of the program, and isn't hard-coded to
"..../radiusd" * Check for EOF in more places in the "detail" file
reader. * Added Freeswitch dictionary. * Chop ethernet frames in
VMPS, rather than droppping packets. * Fix EAP-TLS bug. Patch from
Arnaud Ebalard * Don't lose string for regex-compares in the "users"
file. * Expose more functions in rlm_sql to rlm_sqlippool, which
helps on systems where RTLD_GLOBAL is off. * Fix typos in MySQL schemas
for ippools. * Remove macro that was causing build issues on some
platforms. * Fixed issues with dead home servers. Bug noted by Chris
Moules. * Fixed "access after free" with some dynamic clients.

What's with bogofilter and spam
by Rodd Clarkson
Recently bogofilter's spam sensing abilities seem to have gone all wrong
in evolution.
I was getting way too much span in the inbox (maybe 10% of my spam
wasn't getting detected) and even though I was highlighting it and
marking it as spam the same sorts of messages kept appearing.
So I
1. Stopped evolution getting mail (using the offline icon)
2. deleted all my spam and emptied the trash
3. closed evolution (and ran evolution --force-shutdown).
4. moved ~/.bogofilter to ~/.bogofilter.orig
5. restarted evolution and went back online.
For a while, bogofilter seemed to be doing a better job filtering spam
(much less coming through to the inbox).
However, having a look through the spam, I notice that all my
fedore-(test|devel)-list email and a whole bunch of other email is
getting filtered as spam. I highlight these and mark and not spam.
Now I'm back where I started.
When I first started using bogofilter is needed a little training
(including having put non-spam in the spam box) but after a couple of
days it settled and was quite good (maybe 1% of spam got into my inbox
and very rarely a message I wanted went to spam), so I'm not sure what's
gone wrong.
Are other noticing the same issues?
I prefer bogofilter over spamassassin as the latter takes forever to
filter through email, especially when you've been on holidays for a week
and have to pull a couple of 1000 messages.

Fedora 11 Test Day survey
by James Laska
Greetings,
The Fedora QA team would like your feedback on Fedora 11 Test Days. You
may have seen Adam Williamson's planet post [1] kicking off Fedora 12
Test Day planning. We're interested in identifying areas for
improvement to increase participation and improve effectiveness.
Please take 10-15 minutes to answer any/all of the questions below. You
may reply to the mailing list, or send feedback directly to me. Your
responses to this survey are instrumental in making Fedora 12 Test Days
successful.
Many thanks to Chris Ward for his help in getting things moving with the
survey questions!
===================================
1. How did you find out about Fedora Test Days?
2. Was sufficient documentation available to help you participate in a
Fedora Test Day? If not, what did you find missing or in need of
improvement?
3. Did you encounter any obstacles preventing participation in Fedora
test Days? How might they have been avoided? Did you discover any
workaround?
4. Were you able to locate and download installation media for testing?
Did it function as expected?
5. What follow-up actions do you expect after the Test Day? Are your
expectations currently being met?
6. Would you participate again in future Fedora Test Days?
7. Do you have any more general comments or any suggestions for
improving future test days?
===================================
Thanks,
James

request for server(s) for F10 Final -> F11 Final deltaisos
by Andre Robatino
Is there someone out there with a _real_ file server (unlike the file
hosting service I've been using for the RCs, which deletes files that
haven't been downloaded in 15 days) who could host deltaisos for F10
Final -> F11 Final on release day? Normally, disos for each of the 3
platforms would be about 50% of the full ISO size. Due to the i586
package rebuild, the percentages for i386 and x86_64 should be more like
80% and 57%, resp., with ppc unaffected (I think), so it would only be
worthwhile to host these for x86_64 and ppc this time. Depending on
whether there is an i686 rebuild for F12, it may be worthwhile to host
all three when F12 comes out.
I've considered bittorrent, and would be willing to create and seed a
torrent, though it would be nice for the torrent to live on something
official like torrents.fedoraproject.org. But the disos are mostly
useful to people with slow connections, like 768/128 Kbits. On such a
connection, it's still difficult to download the diso, and much harder
to seed to a ratio of 1. So direct download is much preferred.
Generating the disos is trivial - make sure the deltarpm package is
installed, then see the makedeltaiso man page. The syntax is
makedeltaiso oldiso newiso deltaiso
so all that's needed is to have the full F10 and F11 Final ISOs, then
let this command run for about 40 minutes to generate the deltaiso, then
put it on the server. Jonathan Dieter already has an i386 Beta ->
Preview diso at

but his server seem dedicated to i386 only, plus I don't know if his
bandwidth quota could handle the load.

The UEFI one was kind of a special case. The only people who actually
have appropriate hardware either work for BIOS companies, hardware
manufacturers, or in the testing department of companies like RH, and
everyone who has UEFI hardware certainly knows they do. :) We
intentionally under-promoted that test day because it was really only of
interest to a small and very definitely defined circle of people.
We should, however, have made that rather a lot clearer on the Wiki page
itself, for people who'd got into the habit of just looking at each
week's Test Day as it came. You're right there.

Scheduling is a tricky point, yep: too late in the cycle and you can't
get fixes in, too early and the feature isn't done being written yet.
We're trying to think of ways to optimize scheduling as far as we can.
Thanks for your feedback!

Rebasing F9 bugs..
by Steven M. Parrish
As everyone knows F9 is quickly approaching EOL. When it does one of the
housekeeping duties that is done is to rebase all open bugs for that release
to the next release, in this case F10.
For the components I triage I have made the decision to check and see if the
open issue is still an issue and if so what is the highest release it effects.
In other words if the issue is still present in rawhide then instead of
letting the script rebase it to F10 I will go on and rebase it myself to
rawhide.
This serves two purposes. One it keeps the issue front and center, since most
development goes into the newer release, and two it will keep F10 from getting
slammed with new issues.
Just a suggestion from one triager to another.
