/bin/sh: error while loading shared libraries: libtinfo.so.5
by Christopher D. Stover
Hi everyone,
I tried doing a yum update that didn't go so well. I'm now attempting to
run yum from recovery via a fedora live cd but I'm getting the following:
"/bin/sh: error while loading shared libraries: libtinfo.so.5: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory". Anyone have any ideas of
what I can do to fix this? Thanks!

rv280 improvement
by Bruno Wolff III
After getting past the mass rebuild, my rv280 based card is running glxgears
at 1200 fps, up from 1000 recently and from about 600 a release or so ago.
I saw than kms was enabled for r200 based cards and did a quick test, but got
a black screen and didn't do any further playing around with it.

revision to the components and triagers page
by Adam Williamson
Hi, guys.
I just made a revision to the Components and Triagers page in the
bugzappers wiki:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/Components_and_Triagers
it now contains a column named 'Maintainer information' which links
(with one exception) to the fedora package database page for the main
package in the component, so you can conveniently find out who is the
maintainer for each component. The exception is KDE - that link goes to
the KDE SIG page.
Does this seem sensible? Any complaints? :) Thanks!

This happens with the current Fedora 10 64 bit kernel,
also the previous one.
I do not see any error messages related to the wedging.
I do see some error messages when I attempt to
regain control of the system.
System is an AMD 6000+ in ECS NFORCE6M-A motherboard,
8 GB memory, two SATA on motherboard controller, another
two SATA drives on a Promise PCI controller, and an IDE
drive on a USB dongle.
The system is also processing audio
data at 96 kHz (gnuradio). Thst data is being written
to named FIFOs on the root file system.
The /u file system is the one that wedges. It is not being written
to much at this time, and hardly any new files being created.
When I reset the system I sometimes see a complaint about the
/boot file system, an ext2 file system that shouldn't be written to
at all except when installing a new kernel.
I do have the option of reverting the /u file system back to
ext3 as it is small enough that FSCK doesn't take forever.

Rawhide: firefox & epiphany breakage
by Debarshi Ray
Both firefox-3.1-0.7.beta2.fc11 and epiphany-2.25.91-3.fc11 are
misbehaving with GMail's "Labels" drop-down list. Instead of showing a
list of available labels and letting the user select, it abruptly
assigns a label to the thread. The Fedora 10 packages --
firefox-3.0.7-1.fc10.x86_64 and epiphany-2.24.3-3.fc10.x86_64, are not
affected.
Has anyone noticed this? Shall I file a bug (against Gecko)?
Happy hacking,
Debarshi

rawhide mirror freshness/completness + boot.iso
by matp75
I'm trying to test a fresh rawhide install.
from the rawhide presentation page, i understand I have to use the
standard fedora mirrors to find rawhide.
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/Rawhide#Rawhide_mirrors
Unfortunately, there seems to be a really big delay between a developer
update and the time it takes to reach a mirror.
I've tried several mirrors and they don't always contain the same files
and directories ...
For example, can somebody explain to me how and when the boot.iso file
like this one :
ftp://ftp.free.fr/mirrors/fedora.redhat.com/fedora/linux/development/x86_...
reach mirrors and why it seems this file is not always generated ?
it's almost 16th of march and I can only find a file from 11th
reading the rawhide report 20090314, I find there are anaconda update
which I'm interested in.
Shouldn't there be additional information on the mirror page to explain
which mirror are to be used for rawhide utilisation (I can imagine it's
a big quantity of data moving very fast which only a few users...)
downloading)

F11 rawhide severe X11 latency problems with Radeon
by Emmanuel Galanos
Hello,
Apologies if this issue has already been discussed[1].
I decided recently to try giving Rawhide a go for my day to day
workstation. It was previously running a relatively old, but stable
version of Ubuntu.
After going through the secret initiation rituals of rpm cpio md5
madness[2], many broken dependencies[3], package file conflicts[4],
and duplicate package installs[5], I finally managed to get some
basic level of assurance[6] of a working system.
I am currently running kernel 2.6.29-0.215.rc7.fc11.x86_64. Video
card is a Gigabyte ATI Radeon X700 Pro (PCIE) (RV410). CPU is
a 2.8GHz Pentium D. 2 GB RAM. All packages are the latest (sans
WebKit-gtk and devhelp dependency problems).
Symptoms are:
1) Occasional slow (up to 4-6 seconds) redraw of windows when switching
between virtual desktops
2) Complete freeze of mouse cursor (and rest of X) especially when
moving a window or doing a large vertical scroll in firefox
3) Symptoms are much worse when firefox is running. Typing out this
email (gnome-terminal & ssh) was painful with freezes and input
getting lost.
4) (related?) glxgears or any GL will lock up X server.
I'm not sure whether this is kernel or X11 related. Any ideas on
what I can do to diagnose this further ?
[1] I just recently joined the mailing list and can't see anything
obvious in the mail archives (*ahem* useful subject lines).
[2] Ergh, WTF is the deal with no compatibility flag in the RPM header
that could have been tested rather than an obscure error message ?
[3] Yay to yum --skip-broken for saving my sanity!
[4] Yay to package-cleanup --orphans and rpm -e
[5] Yay to package-cleanup --cleandupes
[6] rpm -Va && yum reinstall && find / -exec rpm -qf {} \;|grep 'not owned'
