New BugZapper Introduction
by Renato Caldas
Hello,
I've just applied to the BugZappers group. My name is Renato Caldas,
and I'm an Electrical Engineer. I'm presently working as an
investigator at LSTS-FEUP, Portugal.
I've been using Linux for over 6 years now, during which time I've
done a lot of programming (mainly in C, but also in other languages),
and made some small contributions to some projects. I've also helped
as a translator.
I've installed Fedora some weeks ago, having been with Gentoo for
almost 5 years. I eventually got tired of compiling every piece of
software in the system :) During that time I also helped around in
gentoo's bugzilla, by testing, triaging and actually fixing some bugs.
I've been enjoying the Fedora experience, and now I want to help :)
Cheers,
Renato Caldas

recipe for adding samsung scx-4826fn printer to f12 beta?
by Robert P. J. Day
(even though f12 "beta" doesn't technically exist, i'll use that
designation for my f12 beta rc2 box that i'll keep fully updated.)
back with f11, i had all kinds of grief trying to add and configure
a samsung scx-4826fn multifunction printer, involving downloading and
installing a samsung unified driver and samsung smart panel and god
knows what else.
is there a simple, precise recipe i can use to test the installation
of this unit? i can do the test and report back.

kmplayer but not mplayer???
by Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
mplayer is in rpmfusion while its front-end kmplayer is in F11 repo ...
what is the sense?
In F12 beta it seems the same thing.
Any particular reason for not having mplayer in Fedora itself?
It seems not due to license, as on its home page:
MPlayer is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the
terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software
Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or (at your option) any later
version.
Also, this for rpmfusion mantainers or Fedora if mplayer will be included:
as libvdpau is now in fedora, could mplayer be directly compiled for its
support so that we happy users of nvidia cards have no need to recompile an
own version of mplayer?
In F11 with "mplayer -vo help" I cannot see it....
Thanks in advance,
Gianluca

F12 comments and questions
by Gene Czarcinski
It has been a few years since I followed/tested the Fedora development cycle.
I am pleasantly surprised and pleased with the quality of the process, the
responsiveness of the maintainers/developers, and the quality of the resulting
product ... a really good job! I am pleased enough with F12 that I plan to
upgrade all of my F11 systems to F12 when F12 is released and I have not
updated like this in years (I recently upgraded from F9 to F11).
I am hoping that the recently described problems with the X server and
firstboot are not a show-stopper for the Beta and that the Beta does appear
next week so that I can give installing it a try. For all intents and
purposes, I am running the beta now since I have kept my real (baremetal) F12
systems updated and well as installing the F12beta release candidates as qemu-
kvm guests. But, when the beta is out, I will re-install using the beta DVD
to make sure that works.
As I said, it has been a few years since I followed the development process.
I assume that the current lack of additional rawhide updates is so that a
"good" beta release could be done and that updates will resume once the beta
DVD, etc. have been cut ... is this correct?
I also assume that the addition of function is now frozen with the beta and
that only bug fix updates will be added to rawhide ... correct?

yum-cron-0.9.1-1.fc10 (FEDORA-2009-10519)
Files needed to run yum updates as a cron job
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
Tweaks before pushing to stable, still addresses bugs 445894, 526452, 524461
- Fixed CLEANDAY default in script - changed the /etc/yum/ scripts to not be
marked as a config file in the .spec - we always want them updated, they're code
not config. rpmlint used to complain about them not being marked as config
files, but seems to have grown out of this weirdness in the meantime .

ChangeLog:
* Fri Oct 9 2009 Alec Habig <ahabig(a)umn.edu> - 0.9.1-1
- Fixed CLEANDAY default in script
- changed the /etc/yum/ scripts to not be marked as a config file in
the .spec - we always want them updated, they're code not config.
rpmlint used to complain about them not being marked as config files,
but seems to have grown out of this weirdness in the meantime .
* Tue Oct 6 2009 Alec Habig <ahabig(a)umn.edu> - 0.9.0-1
- Change cron file to 0yum.cron, so yum updates things before the other daily jobs
such as makewhatis, prelink, updatedb, etc run. That way updated files get picked up
properly. Cost - those jobs will run later. Resolves bug 445894. Changed default
random delay to 60 minutes from 120 to reduce the cost.
- Eliminate the weekly package cleaning script. Replace with logic in the daily script
to clean the packages and the metadata once per week (otherwise corrupted metadata messes
things up indefinitely). Resolves bug 526452. Removal of seperate weekly script resolves
bug 524461.
- Use find to clear stale locks at start of run, so add findutils req.

Stopwatch plugin for the Xfce panel
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
The xfce-stopwatch-plugin is a panel plugin to keep track of elapsed time. There
are no ways to configure the plugin at this time, just add it to the panel. The
time elapsed will be saved when your panel quits and restored next time it’s
running. If time was ticking, it will not start ticking again automatically.

yum-cron-0.9.1-1.fc11 (FEDORA-2009-10541)
Files needed to run yum updates as a cron job
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
Tweaks before pushing to stable, still addresses bugs 445894, 526452, 524461
- Fixed CLEANDAY default in script - changed the /etc/yum/ scripts to not be
marked as a config file in the .spec - we always want them updated, they're code
not config. rpmlint used to complain about them not being marked as config
files, but seems to have grown out of this weirdness in the meantime .

ChangeLog:
* Fri Oct 9 2009 Alec Habig <ahabig(a)umn.edu> - 0.9.1-1
* Tue Oct 6 2009 Alec Habig <ahabig(a)umn.edu> - 0.9.0-1
- Change cron file to 0yum.cron, so yum updates things before the other daily jobs
such as makewhatis, prelink, updatedb, etc run. That way updated files get picked up
properly. Cost - those jobs will run later. Resolves bug 445894. Changed default
random delay to 60 minutes from 120 to reduce the cost.
- Eliminate the weekly package cleaning script. Replace with logic in the daily script
to clean the packages and the metadata once per week (otherwise corrupted metadata messes
things up indefinitely). Resolves bug 526452. Removal of seperate weekly script resolves
bug 524461.
- Use find to clear stale locks at start of run, so add findutils req.

Clock preference doesn't update temperature unit
by Gianluca Cecchi
Installed rawhide pre-beta in English so I don't know if now it is solved.
But after updating to current rawhide, I decided to change
clock/calendar/weather settings, now I see them in a unique button at top
right.
I successfully and dinamically changed location from Boston to Italy; time
(as the location stepped back the clock by 6 hours); time format, but not
unit of measure for temperature.
Even if I changed form F to C or other ones, it remains in Fahrenheit...
(this is true for both the letter and the numeric value... as 43 Celsius
seems to high now in Milan ;-)
Against what to bugzilla eventually?
