When should network be closed down?
by Clyde E. Kunkel
I have a CIFS mount on a rawhide test system that takes about 45 seconds
to umount during shutdown or restart. If I ctrl-alt-f7, I see the
Unmounting CIFS filesystems msg displayed there and the wait begins. I
also see that network manager daemon is first service to be stopped and
the dispatcher is the 5th. Unmounting the cifs file is about number 20
or so. I believe the prolonged stop on the cifs umount is due to no
network being up. Is this correct? If so, should network mounts be
unmounted first or should network manager umount them? Or, is this an
upstart issue?
Network service is disabled, network manager and dispatcher are enabled
and Let NM manage device check box is selected for eth0. Gnome desktop,
no selinux.
I am happy to bz this, but don't know what to bz against?

Can't install on two-disk LVM
by Martin Sourada
Hi,
I'd like to upgrade to rawhide using livecd, but I have issues with LVM in
anaconda (the installed system is FC6). The disks and LVM setup on this
system is like this:
sda1 ext3 /boot
sda2 VolGroup00
sdb1 ntfs
sdb2 VolGroup00
VolGroup00/LogVol00 ext3 /
VolGroup00/LogVol01 swap
VolGroup00/LogVol02 ext3 /home
Now, I'd like to format VolGroup00/LogVol00, swap and hda0 and keep the
rest, so during installation I set custom layout.
However, what anaconda sees is this:
sda1 ext3 /boot
sda2 LVM PV (VolGroup00)
sdb1 ntfs
sdb2 Linux native
When I selest sdb2 and try to edit, an error pops out:
You cannot edit this partition:
This partition is part of the LVM volume group 'VolGroup00'.
When I try to set the mount poinst for VolGroup00, the installator thinks
it's only on sda2 and complains:
The logical volumes you have configured require 167872 MB, but the volume
group only has 9376 MB. Please either make the volume group larger or make
the logical volume(s) smaller.
(The first size is the actual size of the whole VolGroup, the second on is
size of the sda2 parition...)
Can it be that this behaviour is expected on this kind of setups? Is there a
way to workaround it? Should I file a bug against anaconda, or some another
component? Note that the very same partitions can be successfully mounted
and used in the Live CD (20080404).
I tried to update anaconda too latest, but this issue remains.
anaconda-11.4.0.71-1.i386
Thanks,
Martin

nv driver
by Antonio M
With latest driver
xorg-x11-drv-nv 2.1.8-1.fc9
when I try to change resolution of screen by system-config-display something
goes wrong...
1) when I start system-config-display, system-config-display is very slow,
and it says that I have a resolution of 800x600 (that is not true..), and it
stops any application for a while. and I get the system-config-display
screen on a black screen
2) if I change to 800x600 and I re-login I get an ugly screen with rounded
small window..
Shall I file a bug against the nv-driver or against system-config-display??

nemiver i386 not listed in repo
by Andrew Farris
Has anyone else seen a problem with nemiver i386 package not being available?
There is an update in x86_64, and the matching version is actually present on
the mirror for i386, but its not being shown as available through yum. This was
causing updates to fail even with skip-broken, so I had to --exclude it.
Both packages are there:

http://limestone.uoregon.edu/ftp/fedora/development/i386/os/Packages/nemi...
But only x86_64 tries to update.

gnome-system-monitor kills X
by Martin Sourada
Dunno with what update exactly this started happening, but whenever I
open gnome-system-monitor first some totally meaningless image appears
on screen (it's just noise, nothing more) and then gdm starts again,
which means that XServer gets restarted. Is this a known issue?

GDM not displaying KDE

When I log out and back in I don't see an option for kde. It only shows gnome. What else must I install to test KDE4 on fc9? I need access to smb via smb4k. Also the graphical gnorpm tool isn't working: Yum cache was invalid and has been rebuilt is all that it says.

Networking still not initialized properly
by Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX
One down, two to go. Rawhide now remembers a static IP
address, but not the routing or nameserver. resolv.conf
is cleared out on every boot.
Come to think of it, I don't think it remembers the timezone.
Why ask for it during install if you're not going to use it?

How to reach other samba servers?
by Arden Wiebe
I see that there is some type of interface in Dolphin to specify windows shares.
I'm not sure if it is working properly or if I'm not giving it the right data.
My smb.conf is good and the service is running.
Is there some type of firewall blocking packets perhaps?
